Maskol is a liquid masking product. Heres what it looks like in the jar.. Its pretty much liquid latex.

For my subject piece I am painting a few amp boxes and speakers with fabric black.

I dont want the controls to get the fabric on them and the speaker front is going to have a gold front, so I maskol these off by using a small brush. You can add a bit of water to thin the maskol out if needed.

Leave it for 10 mins or so and it will start to turn to a dark purple as it dries. touch up if needed.

Once its dry paint up...

when thats dry I carefully use a knife to lift the edge of the maskol...(to make things easier I should've put a small piece of paper sticking out from the maskol as a pull tab)
Pull the maskol off and she's done

Thanks Andy - a great tutorial. I have long used Humbrol's Maskol not only on models but also on my artworks, when i need to mask off sections before airbrushing. It's top stuff - I have always obtained it from Hearn's Hobbies in Melbourne (but I buy up three or four bottles at a time). It's also available (different brand) from some art and craft shops in various shopping centres around town.
