Coloured window tinting?
Hi, building a gasser and want to do the cool coloured window tint like they had back in the day.
What have you guys used that looks the Biz.
I have tried the clear yellow Tamiya enamel but cant get it on even with a brush, not tried to airbush it on yet though.
Tried to spray on Clear acrylic white yellow Kandy additive but it comes out dry and not very good.
I looked at the Tamiya spray cans yesterday at the hobby shop and the translucent yellow looked like it may work, anyone tried these? am happy to pay for a $12 spray can if it works but don't want to pay $12 to fail and never use it again.
What are you secrets?
Cheers Morrie

Re: Coloured window tinting?
Most good craft stores or scrapbooking stores sell coloured acetate sheet which would be fine if the the glass is all flat.
If you search "coloured acetate" in ebay or Google you will come up with some suppliers. It can be glued in with PVA or super glue (just test your super glue first as it may fog the acetate.

Re: Coloured window tinting?
The tinted windscreen on this is the red perspex from the display of a VCR I pulled apart.
I have had variable results using future floor polish tinted with food colouring. Dip the "glass" rather than brushing it on and wick excess away with kitchen roll. If you stuff up you can remove it with windex which is an advantage paints don't have.
Don't try "stained glass" spray paint - it doesn't work.

Re: Coloured window tinting?
Thanks Guys, decided to have a bash with a few different ideas, all failed to meet top quality finish, most made the glass look slightly frosted.
But the last one works so dam good it looks like real tint
I wasn't keen to try this at first because I have a strict rule to never put Enamel anywhere near my $500 airbrush, so I used my cheaper $250 one lol..
Its so easy, just grab some clear yellow Tamiya enamel and thin it down with auto thinner think it was like 1p Enamel 2p thinner. Spray it on pretty wet so you dot get any dry patches as they are the bits that will look frosted.
I just used 1 coat and it looks sweet, spot on yellow gasser tint.. and the I have the clear Tamiya in red, blue, orange and green.
This is going to open me up to a whole new level of pimpin.
This is the yellow..
Cheers..

Re: Coloured window tinting?
I've used the Tamiya clear red in the pressure pack and sprayed windows before on gassers and found it works well. I sprayed the inside of the windows. also have used Tamiya smoke and tinted windows with some success.
