Re: Pozzolanic Bulk Carriers R600 Mack
Time at the bench has been hard to come by lately but I've finally got the bonnet done.
I still have to clear coat this but at least the pin striping is done! Heaps of cutting and shutting curved pieces to try and follow the shapes and lines of the bonnet. Have 3 of the 4 uprights for the bullbar in place. Time to paint cab and sleeper interiors and then start putting it together. I'm hoping that some corrugated sheet I have will be suitable to use as the shutters on the grill/radiator on this.

Re: Pozzolanic Bulk Carriers R600 Mack
Bullbar has been primed and more filling and sanding done ready to reprime. Put the windows in that were supplied with the sleeper and decals on the windows and bed in.
Not sure what to do with the windscreen. The kit one isn't great but getting a home made one to curve around might be easier said than done!

Never a more accurate description. I'd be happy just to get the time to do anything on it even pinstriping!

Re: Pozzolanic Bulk Carriers R600 Mack
Managed to sneak in a bit of time at the bench over the weekend - didn't have time to get the gear I needed for the garden jobs so............ Just had to do some modelling instead. Made the headlight panels from scribed plastic sheet, resin headlights as I have no idea where the original ones are and made the clearance lights from clear sprue. The blinkers came from the used spares box so aren't quite as sharp as i would have liked. The Mack logos are photo etch from KFS. The letters on the front seem bit big but still look better that the plastic ones. The dog mascots have been painted gold but still need another coat.
Got the bullbar decals on. Basically I just did what looked about right. The blue stripes are narrower than I wanted but the next size up were too wide. I couldn't see the scroll work in red clear enough so I did what looked close, cutting up bits and pieces to get to this.
With no pictures of the rear of the truck, I had a free hand to do what ever i wanted and this is the result. I stuck with the old resin taillights because I thought the new photo etch ones looked too modern. Used a few spare decals as the original truck seemed to collect stickers. Still have to put the number plate light on.
Going to run with the kit windscreen as I've had no joy trying to cut a new windscreen to fit. If i had my time again, I'd put a small plastic strip around the opening to glue the screen to but it's a bit late now - next time Gadget, next time! Probably cut the quarter windows off the screen as the ones attached to it sit too far from the door. I think I'll try to make them before I cut stuff up!

You not finished this yet you slacker?
Do you know there's a pic of your Mack rail ballast dumper thing in the latest issue of Modelart Australia? It's in one of the show reports.

Re: Pozzolanic Bulk Carriers R600 Mack
You are doing well on this;
Maybe past the post but: when doing the "older" R models, without the extended cab (sweep at the bottom) i've had success with using the old Ertl 800 cabs,
Fairly easy modification to bring the offset back to 'normal'
Using this for first series superliner.
Looking forward to this one.
Clea.

Yes, well Fred, what can I say..... struggled a little motivation but now have no time!!! Seeing things come together certainly helps. Managed to track down a copy of the mag with the rail truck in it - very happy!

Re: Pozzolanic Bulk Carriers R600 Mack
Making progress with this again. Cab, sleeper and bonnet are on and in final position.
The pipe poking up in the last shot is the flexible rubber stuff from Auslowe. As I don't have any pics from the back, I'm unsure what type of exhaust it should have. Thinking straight pipe? Ultimately it'll depend on how it all looks when I get to it. The whole rear end is a mix of guess work and what I liked/had in the parts boxes. Predicting more rain this weekend so more might get done.
