1418 Benz
Going to have a go at building something along these lines.
I'm going to use a KP 1418 cab, the one on the left. I was given the other one but it seems to be more 'modern' than the era I'm looking for. I'm not sure what it is made of?
This is the donor kit I'm using for the chassis etc. It came at the right price even though it is not correct but I do like the look of the chassis and it's older looking features.
It looks like I'll have to shorten the distance between the front axle and front cross member for the shorter Benz bonnet. I don't think I'll open the bonnet so I'll be able to leave the top off the radiator and engine if needed to fit them in the new bonnet.

Re: 1418 Benz
The chassis is together.
Had to cut the front end down so that when the Benz cab went on , the wheel arch was centered over the axle.
There is some nice detail on the engine, seems to be a shame to have it covered up but I'm not sure that I can cut the resin bonnet open and detail it enough to be worth the effort.
Quick mock with the engine in. Had to take the aircleaners off the top of the engine to get it under the cab and leave the radiator out.

Re: 1418 Benz
Thanks Al going to be a bit of mucking about with cab mounts etc but so far so good. Post some more pics soon. Experimenting with paints and weathering to age it up a bit.

Re: 1418 Benz
Use flat paint and weather it with dry pastels, should be able to pick up a set of 12 from news paper shop.

Re: 1418 Benz
So a bit of forwards and a bit of backwards on this.
Subframe for the jib.
It was at this point that I discovered that the kit wheels didn't fit under the Benz cab without making it look like an off road truck! So back to the parts box to find some other rims to fit.
Happy with how the guards turned out. They will be weathered up and given a worn look.
Plenty of work needed to the firewall and front of the engine to get it all to fit under the cab. Looks like I'll have to leave the radiator and fan and belts off for it to work. The tunnel will protrude into the cab a bit more as well.

Re: 1418 Benz
Tray for between the cab and jib.
Counterweight  weight/box/container/thingy
I had to find some new hubs and file a bit off the brake assembly to allow the rims to fit,
First coat of primer. needed a couple and a bit of putty to bring it up.
I'll have a go at the hairspray technique to rub through the top coat of paint to reveal some of the rust and primer colour below - hopefully!

Re: 1418 Benz
Been slack when it comes to posting pics of this. 1st colour on.
Main colour done and some trial weathering on the cab roof.
The tyres needed a bit of wear to fit in with the rest of the build.
Had to make a new tunnel to get the cab to sit over the motor more so that the guards lined up with the wheels.

Yeah mate it'll be making the trip. Loosely based on Bob Barlow's old trucks colours.
