’40 Ford Coupe
I’m blaming this one on Paul. I liked his “Strawberries ‘n’ Cream” ’40 Ford coupe so much that I had to build my own.
And I’m also blaming it on Terry, because he sold me the kit!
Anyway, last night I got bored watching election analysis on TV, so I did a couple of mock-ups. The vision in my head came together pretty easy – chrome reverse, big ‘n’ little wide whites, mechanical injection on a W-motor, candy blue, white firewall and flames.

Looking righteous there Bryce, should be something special when it's done..
I've had a '40 in my head for a while, maybe I'll join in with my version.

Re: ’40 Ford Coupe
I'm quite happy to accept part responsibility for selling you the kit Bryce, because I know you'll do a damn fine job with it. It's the best shape of the '40's cars so go get 'em tiger! Sounds like a '40's Ford coupe group build-off is on the cards?

Thanks for the motivational words guys!
If this sun stays out for more than a day I will be heading to the LHS to pick up some primer for sure and get this one under way...

Re: ’40 Ford Coupe
Good luck with the sun deal.
If I get the deuce done this week I may pull a '40 coupe from stock on Saturday.
Mine involves a whole bunch of vintage Corvette bits.

Re: ’40 Ford Coupe
Here’s what I’ve been testing my patience with lately. The colour is candy blue and I used several sets of Revell ’32 sedan flames to make the flame job. It was more difficult than I anticipated – kind of like putting together a jigsaw puzzle with no reference photo. I need to touch up the front with yellow paint once I get some clear on and hopefully it won’t be a complete waste of time!

Re: ’40 Ford Coupe
Since when was any build of yours a waste of time Bryce?
That blue is certainly different - she's going to look real cool.

Re: ’40 Ford Coupe
If only someone made a set of flame masks for the '40 Ford...
Very good decaling there mate. You have more patience than I ever will to manage that.
So the idea is to clear them, mask them and then fade in some yellow? Matching the colour will be the trick. Good luck.

Re: ’40 Ford Coupe
Hi Bryce. Good to see progress. Just my old timey brain cookin' here, but what about a tinge of lighter yellow to start the flame blend, then fading into the barest hint of bright, flat white at the hood tip and maybe fogging just a whisker around the headlights out to the fender edge.Wish I could draw it for you. Just thinkin' out loud. i'm sure it'll be killer, whatever you do. Best to you.Bill

Re: ’40 Ford Coupe
Don't look like a waste of time to me!
I'm with Bill, a little yeller to blend the decals into the white and you are there. I may even have a pic somewhere.
However I'm confused that you'd clear the decals before adding the extra colours?

Re: ’40 Ford Coupe
Thanks for the nice words guys. I didn't mean the model was a waste of time, just that all that cutting and pasting will be a waste of time if I can't blend it in and make it look good...
I might try the white if I can’t get the yeller right.
The clear is to seal the decals so the tape won't rip 'em off when I mask up.
