70 challenger
My brother inlaw is not a patient dude, him building models often made me cringe or laugh my ass off. This build was a combination of the two. After buying up a dozen of so kits and jumping straight into hacking and wacking (hes a car guy in his 30s)I've ended up fixing or receiving the remains of many of them. This one he laid the HOK lacquers on a little hot which crazed the plastic a bit, but the funny thing to me was he put the body in a warm gas oven to speed up the drying time.......... of lacquer how impatient do you have to be ? lol to his credit as soon as it started to droop he pulled it out and threw it in the sink. Now most of it wasnt to bad but the boot and left rear qtr were pretty munted, so what to do? by the way it looks better in pics than reality
so I've started on a workshop resto of sorts. The qtr is off the drivers door and boot are off and I'm starting on all the interior sheet metal bracing, you know the stuff you never see usually. The right rear qtr has been rusted out as has the sills, new back panel welded in place will give it a new right front qtr in black from the parts shop. It will eventually end up in a workshop dio
the tulip panel is probably going to come off as well, also thinking about giving it a vinyl top

Re: 70 challenger
WOW, nothing like going in head first is there? That should look awsome, black guards, leave the rear quarter in bare metal look with raw welds would really set it off.,looking forward to this one as it progresses.

Re: 70 challenger
Geez... Your bro-in-law's not the sharpest tool in the shed, is he? Putting a plastic model in an oven to dry it? & a Mopar to boot?!!! Personally I'd be telling my sis' to sign his walkin' papers quick smart
Great idea though, making lemonade outta the lemons he's sent your way
Looking forward to more progress.
Cheers Cliffo.

Re: 70 challenger
got a bit more done on this, have to make up the inner skins for both doors now. Undecided whether to put it on a rotisserie or on weathered drive train. the engine and trans will be out of the car so will entail a fair bit of weathering and detailing to make it look good but my emphasis is to get the body done first
theres a few pics, just trying to show some of the details better as well as the overall shots

Re: 70 challenger
thanks guys, hearts not been into much lately but I've done a little more on this one. Worked on the rust already there trying to get it a little more realistic and cut out the molded in battery and made a rusty battery box for it instead

Re: 70 challenger
cool wreck. it will need a field or garage dio to rust away in.
it's neat how you put the window mechanism behind the missing rear quarter.
let me know if you want a picture of a rear parcel shelf, i could ask on the dodge forum, someone might have an exposed shelf.
also, here's a inner door for challenger, if that helps.

Re: 70 challenger
Great work DSF, love the detail mate, but with all that rust, you could have used a FORD body and saved all the effort.

Re: 70 challenger
Where I was born in the northern regions of the US where there was 21 feet of snow per winter and the road crews used salt to keep the ice from forming, it was Mopars and GM that rusted the quickest!!!
