Two Wheels
G'day all,
Firstly let me say that being a complete computer moron, it has taken me ages to work ouot how to post photo's on here so please forgive me if this doesn't work.
My name is Pete and I live in Dubbo NSW. If there are any Defence people out there, you may even remember me on the modelling forum as Woof or Sumpy (both very long stories). A short time ago I contacted Detail Downunder with a query about wheels and so contacted Paul our esteemed Grand Poo......bah. In my e-mail to Paul, I included some photos of my models and he thought I should join the club and let others see them so here they are.
They are made almost entirely in metal and totally from scratch. I started out wanting to make metal sculptures; that is rather abstract, but I just couldn't stop myself from adding more and more detail. So now they are almost scale in appearance. They are about 300-350mm long and use wheels which are about 110mm diam. They also weigh over a kilo.
The engines are made from bolts and washers with some added tinware for detail. Carbies and airfilters are again bits and bobs. The frame, handlebars and exhausts are all made from different diam steel rod mig welded. Some of the mufflers are hand formed in tin.
The tanks and other engine covers are also hand beaten in tin and the mudguards on the vintage bikes are pressed in a bench press in a mould of my own construction. Seats use a tin base and are upholstered with foam covered in upholsterers leather. The wheels are the only part I don't make myself (yet).
Well I hope someone out there likes them. I know that this is primarily a Car based forum but as there is a photo on the home page of a disply of bikes, I reckon I'm pretty safe. If there are anyone else out there who is into scratch building in metal, I'd love to hear from yez and share ideas. And if "Modelmaker" is out there, Sean I'd love to speak to you about wheel construction.

Awwwwww shucks
Geez thanks you guys. I'm pretty proud of them for what they are. I mean compared to some of the craftsmanship displayed on this site, my bikes look pretty primitive and basic. Now if I can just pursuade the boss into letting me use the plastic money card for a small metal lathe, home electroplating kit and a small sand blaster........hmmmmmmmmm!
