Allard J2 Le Mans
This British Allard J2 is a 1:43 scale resin model by Bizarre. It represents one of two factory cars entered in the 1951 Le Mans 24 hours race. Car number one was driven by the man himself, Sydney Allard, and his co-driver was Tom Cole. Unfortunately both cars retired with gearbox and transmission problems. No problems with the engine. A huge Cadillac 331ci V8 provided plenty of brute horsepower in a car no larger than a Lotus Super Seven. They apparently were quite a handful to drive. Sydney Allard was also instrumental in introducing drag racing to England.

Re: Allard J2 Le Mans
Nice.
Big V8 + wire wheels + skinny tyres. I can believe they'd be a handfull to drive.
And after wrestling one around Le Mans it's not surprising he gave up on corners.

Re: Allard J2 Le Mans
Zenrat I think the order of the drive was flat chat, no brakes, and hold the drift on corners. I'm surprised the Ford/Thames 3-speed gearbox held on for so long (fourteen hours until it gave up). What a wonderful sound the V8 must have made?

Re: Allard J2 Le Mans
Wonder what it got up to on the Mulsanne?
No chicane in the middle in those days.
And he would have probably been wearing a short sleeved shirt, flying goggles and a "corker" skid lid.
And maybe no seat belt as the thinking was it was safer to be thrown clear...
They had bigger balls in those days!
