Re: AMT '70 Super Bee Build Off
Looking good Tubs ,I like that shade of blue. All I've done to mine is taken all side markers and doorhandles off and sanded the body.
Re: AMT '70 Super Bee Build Off
Love the blue. looks a treat,, almost enough to make a bloke 'turn' to late models.

Yep, that's a very nice blue.
Not sure which set of stripes I would like more, probably the single one over the rear??

Nice paint Tubbo.
I've started glueing the engine & gearbox of mine and fiddled with wheels & tyres.
Here's some inspiration from Autochamps.

Nice blue - that will look great with white stripes and a white interior!

Not really, I just hate it when I know i've read something but can't find the reference.
Anyhoo, found it.
From Original Dodge and Plymouth B-Body Muscle 1966-1970 By Jim Schild.
It states “All 1970 Coronets used a ...grille design that incorporated a massive dual-loop front bumper...Most 2 door hardtops added a body colour vinyl appliqué to the recess between the bumper loops”.
http://books.google.com.au/books?id=SUfwxG5O-uAC&pg=PA108&lpg=PA108&dq=1970+super+bee+chrome+grille&source=bl&ots=5A5llclCfp&sig=BxVUk4GfDYLq3XREEmYi6TukBoA&hl=en&ei=SUD3Sp3iJYPKsAOB4uy0CQ&sa=X&oi=book_result&ct=result&resnum=5&ved=0CBYQ6AEwBA#v=onepage&q=1970%20super%20bee%20chrome%20grille&f=false
If you click on the link and then scroll to page 105 you can see chrome at the top and bottom of the body colour sticker on the front of the white Coronet.

Re: AMT '70 Super Bee Build Off
anyhow moving right along slapped on some filler, primer and chucked it on a mockup chassis to determinate the wheelbase this is where I'm heading.
Also think I'm gonna go for one of those top fuel looking tuner wings rather than the bbq table spoiler in my first pics

Probably a good idea.doorslammerfan wrote:anyhow moving right along...
Looking good there. I assume you're going for a moulded in look at the front with no chrome loops?
I've attacked the body and bonnet of mine with filler to deal with some sink marks.
Other than that. Nothing done.

Re: AMT '70 Super Bee Build Off
Lookin' good... and bright!
I've had the same camera problems with a gold flake paint job. There must be a way to photograph flake paint, anyone know?
So far I've smoothed out the body and hit it with undercoat, not much to show.

Yeah right. Looks bloody awfull (sarcasm).
I was going to suggest that sunlight might bring the flake out but looks like your pics were outside anyway.
I've started sanding the bonnet and picked up the body only to put it down again.
What's the quality of moulding like on everyone elses bodies?
Mine is not one of AMTs better efforts. The plastic looks rather translucentish and cheap and all the detail seems very soft (indicating a worn mould maybe?).
I might get out the spare body i've got and see if that looks any better. Trouble is the roof got squashed by the postie and the A pillers are a bit wonky.
One thing I don't like on the body is the way the wheelarch chrome trim is moulded lower than the surrounding panels. This means I can't just sand it off. I'll either have to fill over it and sand back or shave it off and make the openings a touch larger.

Re: AMT '70 Super Bee Build Off
All the ones I had seem o.k. but they all vary as far as sink marks go, especially the dashes. Hard call on the wheel arch trim, I just left mine, didn't give it much thought actually.
I've got my motor pretty much together, gotta find some air cleaners to suit yet and plumb the carbs. I'll do some pics soon.
Still working up the nerve to tackle the skunk stripes, don't want to bugger them up . Got some alclad on the rocker covers and some resin Convo Pros and they came up great, the wheels nearly look better than the kit chrome ones I've got...mmmmmmm, what to do, might post some pics of them to see what peoples think. Interior is coming along, carpet is flocked, centre console has been removed so a auto B & M shifter could go in. Seats are in but may be a bit shiny, may have to repaint yet, then the harnesses are going in...maybe..depends if I can sort the PE buckles out. Picture update soon.

Re: AMT '70 Super Bee Build Off
Hmmm, sink marks. I've got 2 behind the rear window (over the body to chassis mounting posts) and 2 on the top of the front wings just in front of the windscreen.
Haven't looked at the dash yet but i'll be doing a RHD conversion to that anyway.

Re: AMT '70 Super Bee Build Off
Mine was pretty easy to clean up, drip rails and the wheel arch trims are a bit thin and the bonnet is a poor fit.
I haven't even looked at the interior yet, I've got to reconstruct the undercarrige before I go any further. Speaking of that, does anyone have any decent photo's of the undercarrige??

Re: AMT '70 Super Bee Build Off
Not of a 1:1 undercarriage, no.
I prepared the passenger side of the body last night. Ended up shaving the marker lights, door lock, gutters and inside the vent windows. Also sliced off the moulded in wheel arch trim which enlarges the holes and IMO improves the look.
This work was easy as the body seems to be made from extra soft plastic (or maybe it was the heat?).
My bonnet fit is also terrible. It'll need strips of styrene sheet gluing around the edges followed by sanding back to fit.
I did get out the spare (squashed) body and it's detail is as soft as the one i'm working with. The squashed body was actually the one that came with the stock Bee kit i'm building. I'd swapped it tino a Pro Street box that is lined up to be a chassis doner for my Pro Lux project.

Re: AMT '70 Super Bee Build Off
Bit the bullet today and layed down the stripes, many stressful minutes later I unmasked it. Blue came through the vent but I will foil it, no bleed through under the tape so that's all that matters. Three coats of clear later, this is the result.
And this is how far I have got with the donk. The rocker covers are resin items from TPB

Looking awesome Kirk! That paint looks a mile deep. Are the rocker covers alcladed or bmf'd?
Re: AMT '70 Super Bee Build Off
