The Black Widow – ’58 Chevy Impala

Man, this is a really fiddly kit and I am glad to see the end of this build!

I had planned to build this car factory stock as I like the original look of these cars, but then I saw a picture of Lee Pratt’s car and that was what I wanted. I normally build late forties-early fifties era tail draggers and sleds, so this is a bit of a departure in style for me.

The body has been nosed, decked and partially shaved. In hindsight I wish I’d spent the extra time removing the sill mouldings and rear side scoops – I think it would have cleaned up the lines a lot more – but I was feeling lazy at the time…

The purple candy roof was replaced with red and I didn’t have any lace, so I went with scallops instead. I also opted for chrome reverse instead of wires on a set of painted white walls. I have also frenched the stock taillights and painted the bumper insets black for a mild kustom touch. The interior and engine are box stock with some detailing.

Brilliant, that paint choice really suits the body and I love the way you've done the muticolored seat inserts. Top work on a rare option.

Man,that's one for the angels. Wondeful job on the whole car but that interior is killer. I spent many hours in my buddys' '58 during high school. Your detailing in there,patterning and all,is dead nuts,Bud. Brought back some pleasant memories. Wish his looked like that. It was copper with a white roof,283 w/a power slide auto. Great looker but a terminal pig. Thanks for sharing . Best,Bill

Chris - I made the steelies by adding a deep dish chrome rim to the wheel backs from an AMT '57 Thunderbird.

Magnificent - a real work of art, and I for one am glad you didn't touch the mouldings and scoops. It all adds a certain character to the car.

nicely done mate the intirior is kick ass as is the paint job but because of all the bling and detail in the body and intirior the engine bay looks left out not saying it dont look good cause its verry tidy and well done but its not as wild as the rest of car in detail i hope this makes sense any ways i love it and would love to see this one for real top job and a for sure
