Chey Silverado Truggy Empty Chey Silverado Truggy

Post by Kynan Tue 31 Aug 2010, 2:21 pm

This one is going to be a slow build it's being done a I need a bit of a brake from that other build that driving me bonkers build. And the crap Toy World here never has any Evergreen when I need It so I have to wait for ages for it to turn up!!!!

Lesson 1; What's a Truggy? you might be thinking, Its a cross between a Trophy truck and a Open class Buggy The name is taken combining the words Truck and Buggy TRU-GGY. They run in the same class as the trophy truck. The Trophy truck has it's motor moved back in the cab for weight distribution and uses a normal diff, were the Truggy has it's motor in the rear like a buggy but it face's forward and uses the buggy gearbox and suspension set up

Their is some tricks that I have used on this build from far better modellers than me from other forum's and mate that build and run the real things in the states. Like the front flares are made out of the plastic kid's yoghurt containers the one that come in a 6 pack.

Here is the inspiration for this build and yes its a Ford

I like the scratch building I find that it is the most relaxing part of the build but I hate the painting and sanding side, If I could get some one to do the painting side for me I would be in heaven.
And remember I'm a Tasmanian that move to North Queensland and it should make perfect since to you.

I like the pic of the 1:1 when it's sitting right on the deck. It'd make a mean as street ute/thing like that.

I know what you mean about the fill/sand/paint cycle. I suspect its why some people build nothing but rat rods (hwwwoick ptui).

I need to keep an eye on this build, as I was thinking of doing something like this out of a bits-and-pieces chev pick up that I have laying around. Looking awesome so far BTW.

Thanks all for he comments on this so far if anyone wants to know the tricks that I have been shown by some of the best modellers of this type of race car I am more than happy too. The flared guards are a bugger to do if unless you know some off the tricks and the front are near impossible I used to dread doing them but with the tricks the front takes about 10 mins to do both and the rear take about 10 - 15mins each.

H C and Marshie I will be in Launceston for a couple of weeks at the end of the month and the start of next month to see the family which I will want to get out of the house after a day or two. So it would be good to catch up and put a face the Names and voices and do a bit off building. I might sneak some bodies in for Marshie to do one or two of those marvellous paint job on for me but I will have to sneak it in the luggage so the wife does not see them or I might get a premature vasectomy

Chev Fan depending on the Chevy body if it a medium size truck you can get away with using the cage with some simple mods and a heap of other bits from a nascar kit more current cars are better than older style of nascar kits

If you can put your tricks like you did a bit with the flares in here, I'll be stea.....hmmm, borrowing/looking at the pics for reference along the way. It'll be a while before I get started on mine I'd say, too many on the bench, not enough time to do it all. I've got the stepside c1500 I think it is. It was given to me and they'd butchered the tray etc to make it prostreet style. Looking at options and was interested in something like this after playing colin mcrae dirt, and now your build.
