Re: Making Transfers
There are a number of different makers of print your own decal paper.
I use Testors. Mainly becaues it's A5 sheets (yes, I do appreciate it is possible to cut down A4).
You'll need a pack of that, a computer, suitable software, a printer and some thing to seal the decals (I use Testors Decal sealer spray).
Make sure the decal paper will work with your printer. It'll say on the pack if it's for ink jet or laser. I forget the difference but if you get it wrong it doesn't work.
Design the decals on the computer. I usually use Micro$oft Powerpoint. Don't forget you can't print white (unless you have an ALPS printer - you can use white background paper but think how hard it'll be to trim up to the edge of the design). Jam as many designs onto one sheet of paper as you can to avoid waste. Or cut the paper down to A6. Don't forget to allow generous margins and keep doing test prints on plain paper until you are sure it's going to work.
Follow the instructions in the printer paper as far as printer settings go and print them.
DO NOT TOUCH THE PRETTY COLOURED PRINTING UNTIL ITS COMPLETELY DRY.
After 24 hours (just to be sure) spray a couple of light coats of the sealer on.
Allow at least 24 hours to dry.
Cut out decals and put on model. Swear when you realise dark paint bleeds through thin decals and changes the colour. Use the second set you printed "just in case" to double layer the decals to prevent this.
Or use white decal paper cut to size underneath. This won't need the sealer as it has no ink on it.
If you are going to clear over the decals then allow at least 72 hours to make sure there is no moisture left in the decals and then sneak up on them with really light mist coats of clear so they get used to the idea.
