First build for over 30 years- 65 Chev P/up DONE!
Well its been a long time coming. Was a prolific modeler in my younger days but life took me in a different direction. Back on track now ...soooooooo here we go ! Not sure when next update will come as I am traveling around WA and my workshop is the great outdoors or inside my tent so updates will depend on the weather. Yea its a tough life I know hehehe.
Model will be box stock besides color scheme.
So lets get going ... all the engine is together.....
The Chassis and a couple of other bits are flat blacked...
and the body etc has been cleaned, sanded and primered.....
So now I can start painting ...if the weather ever fines up. Im thinking a purple color but I will wait until I actually pour the paint into the airbrush (Another new tool to master) before I say definatly as I am also leaning towards yellow ....or maybe metalic copper or ....
I will keep ya posted!
Stay tuned !

Well done for getting back into it while you're still on the road too . I guess boxing it all up between sessions isn't the problem , it's more finding a clean and dust free space to work on it that is . Good luck and have fun

Re: First build for over 30 years- 65 Chev P/up DONE!
Cheers folks. Yea packing up all the time is a pain but trade off in life style is well worth it. Lost a couple of mates the same age as me to the big C and split from the ball and chain a couple of years ago so I sold everything off and decided to spend the next 2 years travelling around just in case the big C or something else came looking for me hehehe! I spend time in some remote places so the modelling seemed like a good idea to kill some time plus I still love doing it!
Anyhoot ...the chassis is all done just need to decide on a color for the body ...thats always the hardest part for me.
Thanks for the interest.

Chassis look good, I always like these trucks in red..........blue looks good too.........don't mind them in green either! Maybe even a copper brown, the possibilities are endless!!

Help! Instead of seeing your pictures, all I'm seeing is tons of HTML code?
You have copied and pasted the HTML code instead of the IMG code for the pics to show up.
I would really like to see your pics

Re: First build for over 30 years- 65 Chev P/up DONE!
Im calling this done. It was a box standard build just to get the feel for modeling again and it came up fairly good. There are a few things im not happy with like the grill and the way the tray sits and a few other little things but all in all a fun build. Also my first ever paint job with an airbrush. The color is called red copper and the photos dont do it justice.
Next project underway - MUSKstang !

Mozilla Firefox is my browser. Now I can see your pics - thanks Dean. It was worth the effort - love the whole build.
Just curious - is this the Stepside model that Chevy ended up in court over? Something about the fuel tank blowing up if hit on the side???
Cheers,
Tezza

Re: First build for over 30 years- 65 Chev P/up DONE!
Came out really good The fleetside tray doesnt sit very well on the 64's either ( same molds I suspect).
Re: First build for over 30 years- 65 Chev P/up DONE!
i do remember a story about bean counters at major manufacturers who worked out the odds versus costs, one of the vehicles affected was (i think ) early 70's chev pick ups, when T boned the fuel tank would rupture and cause a fire/explosion, another was a mid 70's torino these would also rupture the fule tank and catch fire if rear ended with an indicator working, the bean counters did their maths and decided it was cheaper to pay out expected lawsuits than to fix the problem !

Re: First build for over 30 years- 65 Chev P/up DONE!
Looks good man.
Costing payouts against fixing stuff is standard Risk Assessment practice for large projects. When I worked on the railways we had figures for cost of deaths (updated annually) and if payout for projected number of deaths was less then cost of works then the work didn't get done. Ever wonder why ungated level crossings still exist - it's cheaper to compensate the widows than install gates...
