70 coronet super bee rebuild/rescue
Hey guys, here my latest build, its a 70 coronet super bee. I bought it off ebay for $4.79 as a glue/enamel bomb. it was coated in thick green enamel and was very incomplete, pretty much a body and chassis so most of it is from the parts box and some other super bee junkers I have.
The windows were junk with glue all over them so I pinched a set out of one of my sealed kits, Shhhhh
first thing to do was to strip the paint, used good old brake fluid for this one.
Here she is in the bath, don't look at the blue/orage nova, it's a future project -
Body all cleaned up -
and chassis -
The donk, a twin over head cam hemi (from another super bee junker) Also added a super charger to make it look more angry -
First mock up -
underneath -
Now for some engine detail, at this stage I started to paint the body so I started using one of the other junkers for a mock up shell (which was very handy) -
At this stage I started to think about a two tone paint job -
Then I made up my mind, It was going two tone. I sprayed it silver, left it overnight then masked it up and did the top Blue -
Unmasked it and it looked great, these shots are before I cleared it -
At this point, I decided that the wheels and engine I was going to use looked to old school, so I decided to use a revell funny car hemi and pinched the wheels from an AMT nova. The engine has twin dizzy's so wiring the 16 spark plug leads with boots was a fun job -
It didn't have a diff or anything so I made up a simple 4 link set up -
The hole in the bonnet was way to big after the engine swap so had to fill in a bit towards the front of the bonnet -
While mucking around with the motor, I also cleared the body -
out in the sun light -
Engine bay almost done -
Painted the interior and made up a simple roll bar -
Making sure the bonnet fitted and a final mock up -
some final engine bay detail -
This where I'm at, just need to fit widows, bumpers/grill and wack it all together

Coming along nice mate, firstly, how long did you leave it in brake fluid, is it straight b/fluid? The pinkish red reflection in the photos goes well with the colours, what about a thin pin stripe to separate the blue/silver in the pink, would look great,( just a thought when looking at the pics ), will look awsome which ever way. Work detail is excellent.

Looking good dude, man you work fast. Just a suggestion, try using Tamiya tape for your mask line, it gives a really crisp line with no bleed through, that's what i used on the stripes on my Super Bee and they came out damn near perfect.
You can also bend it easily for curved lines, I use the 6mm but you can get different sizes.

Re: 70 coronet super bee rebuild/rescue
Cheers mate, its just normal brake fluid, same as what I use in all my Holdens. and I usually leave it overnight, some take longer, some quicker and some it does nothing at all to the paint. I still experimenting at the moment. but be very careful with resins or plastics other than styrene as some will melt. I was going to add a red pin stripe but was pretty happy with the line I just decided to clear it.DeeCee wrote:Coming along nice mate, firstly, how long did you leave it in brake fluid, is it straight b/fluid? Cheers for the advice, just picked up some Tamiya 6mm tape today from the local hobby shop, the stuff I was using is 6mm auto stuff used for pin striping (I use it with work for doing the black outs on Torana's) but i think this Tamiya stuff looks like it will do a nicer job. To tell ya's the truth, it was doorslammerfan that inspired me to go that step further with the detail, his work is outstanding
