49 Mercury Sedan Delivery
Thought I'd better put some pics up of this as I have done a fare bit on it.
Body started as a Jimmy Flintstone resin body and yes it's a phantom. I wish all resin bodies were this easy to prep, no pin holes at all, bit of Dremel work to fit chassis but only cause the sides were a bit thick. Donor is AMT Merc.
First job was to sand off the side trim and put on some of my own Buick side trim. Next I extended the headlight buckets with some hollow styrene rod and filler. Not sure on motor yet and the wheels in pics are for mock up only, hopefully will have Caddy Sombreros soon.
Time to paint, colours are Acrylic Lacquer Holden Poison Ivy with black pearl in it to darken it up and white insert. The green changes colour depending on light.
With out wheel spats.
With wheel spats, not sure which way to go, will also have lake pipes on it.
Tail lights are out of my parts box.
Grill is from the RM Merc and the bumpers will also be from it.
Don't think it will be quite this low but won't be far off it, using lowered suspension from AMT Merc

VERY VERY VERY nice mate, loving the colours too, my personal view is " with the wheel spats.". looks great either way though.

Luvverly.
I can't decide if I like it better with or without the lids on the wheel holes. Is there a way you can make them removeable (other than blu tac)?
Magnets maybe?

Looks great, love the colour. Tough choice with the spats, have a slight preference without them.

Lookin good dude, I'm with Jason about the spats.
This would be nice at our show. Oh well
have to wait for Mackay.

Re: 49 Mercury Sedan Delivery
Yeah think I'm leaning towards no spats but can make it a last thing call.
Thanks for the comments guys, appreciate it.
Will probably have it finished in time for your show but no chance of me getting there, might see if Rocket want to take a couple up for me, if not, no drama, will wait till Mackay.

Re: 49 Mercury Sedan Delivery
Looking good...but leave all the wheel spats. They make it look slab-sided and bulkly at the rear...that's my opinion.

Re: 49 Mercury Sedan Delivery
You could glue on 1 and leave the other off & display it on a turntable...

Got my artist wife to have a look...she says with the spats it looks tail-heavy...(I've made it more polite than what she actually said).

Yeah I know what you're saying, because of the SD roof it just makes it too big, think I'll go without.

What a lovely model you have created Tubman
Personally I like it without the wheel spats, but I'm a bit outnumbered

Re: 49 Mercury Sedan Delivery
.....personally I'd fit the spats, but it would need to be sitting higher at the front for it to work,. On the plus side you'll save 2 wheel covers for another project!!......Paint looks sweet BTW

Re: 49 Mercury Sedan Delivery
nah dude, there was just no other way to build this thing. I've decided that I will wait till it is finished before I make my choice and the choice will be determined by the stance.Bryce wrote:Mmmmmmmmm....tasty custom mate - are your tastes changing? Got a few more sedan deliveries that will be build kustom style but I also have a 69 El Camino that will live up to my name, have managed to get the rear of a pro mod chassis under it.

Where'd you get the chrome lancer caps in the mock up pics? They are rare as rocking horse shite.

Re: 49 Mercury Sedan Delivery
They are out of the 59 Chev coupe kit, it has a picture of a standard black car and a white custom on the front of the box.

Re: 49 Mercury Sedan Delivery
Looks great Tubman, I think it needs the skirts, I agree with Bryce, Kustoms are supposed to look like they are Draggin their ass! To break up the Boxy shape, maybe exterior visor from the AMT 50 Chevy pick up?
