T Time Empty T Time

Post by otherunicorn Wed 21 Mar 2012, 6:04 pm

Years ago I was working on a model like this, but I lost interest, and boxed up all the different parts I'd gathered to make it, and sold it on ebay.
The last version had the barrel instead of the turtledeck, and centerline mags from a MPC Chevelle. I refuse to pay the ludicrous prices that kit fetches now, so used the wheels that came with the kit.

That's cool, what type of motor is that ? I'm tempted to say /6 but some things don't look right.

I have seen that engine some where just not quite sure. Is it the one from the Revell challenger one dragster? A Pontiac 4 cyl if I recall. Not over sure on that though.

Revell's Attempt 1 record car. Finding another one of those was the first challenge! Pontiac Tempest four-cylinder engine.

I thought that was the kit. I have one which I built a long time ago, must find it and see if it is still okay,if memory serves me correct i don't think I actually finished it either.

The 4 banger was basically the right hand half a 389 cube V8.
Mickey Thompson also made a twin by cutting a tempest in half between cylinders 2 & 3.
Apparently it vibrated like buggery - not surprising given (judging by the pics inHot Rod Deluxe) it had a 360 degree crank like a Triumph twin (which are not known for their smooth running when they get over 500cc).

I was reading that lastnight, took it from 51 cu.in out to 90, got the tempest 2 cyl makin' 200 hp, not bad! M/T had some wierd ideas, but always gave it a shot anyways, whatta guy!

The stock 4 vibrated like buggery, so I'm not surprised the 2 was a shaker!

Same motor that I put in the Ice ManX. Nice & compact but I did wonder what it ran like, should have sounded good though.
I like Ts & this one is looking good too.
