'59 Impala
The moment I got this kit I wanted to put a six in it.
Don't know why. Just to be different maybe?
That led to a search for an appropriate engine. There were subtle changes made to the Chevrolet six for '58 or '59 so I shouldn't use any of those I had from AMT '50 & '51 Chevs or the Galaxie '48. And the Trumpeter donk in the '63 Nova was a depiction of a smaller capacity engine.
AMT '60 ute has a six so I got one of them from Luke. Only to find the street machine version had fuel injection and no stock engine parts.
So I then picked up a stock ute (confusingly - to me - labelled as the "custom fleetside") and proceeded to swap the engines over - 348 tripower in the ute and 6 in the Imp.
The six is actually a bit of a tight fit. I though it'd be easy as the 1:1 model came like this sometimes. Maybe AMT & Monogram use different rulers?
I wanted to use an SU carbie and had to add the curved adaptor to clear stuff.
I've also lowered it 2 inches all round.
Paint will (probably) be a combination of blue, aqua & black. Interior is blue & white.

Re: '59 Impala
The difference is AMT scale is 1:25 and Monogram is 1:24. Doesn't sound much but it can (and has) made a difference in tight-fitting areas of model vehicles. Looks like you're on another winner with this one Fred.

That's true Terry. I forgot. that. But that means the engine should be slightly too small and therefore fit easier?
Doesn't really matter anyway as it's in there now.

Re: '59 Impala
Done some more.
Plan is to add another colour to the lower half of the body (probably black) and then satin clear it.
Chrome has been stripped and will be alcladded lightly to look tarnished.
The seat cushions have been washed with very thinned smoke to try to make them look dirty & sat upon. Not sure how successfull that was (flash has flared it out) but if you don't try anything...
