71 Mustang

this is AMT's 71 mustang, its a pretty ordinary kit, old with lots of flash and its an old style AMT, gunna take a bit to tidy this one up. so far the engine is done ( went with the 351) have selected new wheels and its guna be red

Good luck with this one John. It another of AMT's kits from hell. I know you'll do it justice. Can't wait to see this one finished.

I built some really bad Mustang kits as a youth. Can't remember which ones except for a vivid memory of brush painting maroon humbrol enamel over a bright yellow body.
The box art always put me off picking up one of these - it looks more like a mutated XC Hardtop than a Mustang.
Is that the engine that came with it? It looks undersized.
Good work on the interior.

I'm watching how well you do with this kit....I've got the AMT '69 on my shelf and I really don't know what to do with it?? Got in it a trade deal........yeah cool thanks...awesome kit....not!!!

yes Fred thats the engine that came in the kit, there are several and u are not the first to comment on its size, not sure if this is the reason or not but this mustang was made to take the 427/8/9 big blocks without any mods, the engine bay was made wider than earlier models wich had to have some mods done by ford to get the big blocks in as a result the small blocks dont seem to fill the engine bay, this is the 351 that came with the kit

got some paint on this one, it has some pretty impressive stripes on the decal sheet but they are only in silver and i wanted black, no problem says i, i can mask them up, seems that i got my ambitions and my capabilities a bit muddled and simply wasted a lot of masking tape, so it has ended up with some of the stripes and even those are a bit dodgey but they are shiny !

Looks pretty good from this angle mate, your right, it does shine quite a bit, sweet red, any particular colour?? or just red.

its Tamiya TS 85 bright mica red

Nice paint DV8, really shines, I like the black striping and bonnet .....cool.
