Sox&Martin Cuda
This is the latest build (read:rebuild) on the bench...
It's my old JoHan Sox & Martin '71 Cuda that I "streeted" many years ago. Well now it's going to get the build it deserves.
It came apart ok, bugger all damage and all the 20 year old paint was stripped.....eventually.
I'd long ago lost the original decals so I ordered a set from Slixx and they look great.
Anyway I couldn't help myself and I couldn't leave the original metal axle front end in it so I've built a rough replacement to better resemble the real deal.
I guess it'll get some updated wiring and plumbing but it won't be "all out", as I can't find huge amounts of good detail reference pics.
Here's where it's at so far;
Where it started....
All stripped....
New front end and floor....
Engine cleaned up awaiting detailing....
Mock up....
Can't wait to get some colour on this and get that engine all wired up.........
Stay tuned
Cheers TJ

Sweet Cuda in the making. Are the suspension components and floor kitbashed, scratchbuilt or a mixture?

Re: Sox&Martin Cuda
Thanks for the comments guys Still early days yet, biggest problem will be holding myself back and not going nuts on it.
mopar68, all the update bits are scratch built from styrene stock, just a rough representation of the real set up.

Re: Sox&Martin Cuda
Just a quick update on this one. I've laid down the body white and the blue, but I'm not totally happy with the stripes. It bled under the tape in some spots and I'm a dufus and got over-spray on the firewall. All repairable but just gonna take some time to fix.
Red sides next.............

Re: Sox&Martin Cuda
Hi TJ
Your Cuda looks really good and it´s a pleasure to see that you restore this lovely kit. It´s the best Cuda kit IMO. I have the Testors release of this kit waiting for its resurrection. Built it about 13 years ago.
Really looking forward to see progress on your build.
Greetz,
Kevin

Re: Sox&Martin Cuda
Thanks Kev, yeah and it's fun to bring this great little kit back to life after years stuffed on a dusty shelf. Your Cuda looks like a good clean build, looks like a good base to start your resurrection.

Re: Sox&Martin Cuda
Despite traveling a bit for work lately I've got some progress to show on this one....
Got the decals & BMF on and the interior is about 90% done, just needs a harness and some window straps now.
Got to say the Slixx decals are real good, but my whole master plan of using Tamiya clear enamel over the top of them is apparently a No-No according to the manufacturer. I picked Tamiya clear as it's real clear not yellowish like some other brands, especially as it's going over white. So now I'm deciding what to use and about to do some tests to find an alternative.
Cheers TJ

Re: Sox&Martin Cuda
mate i have recently purchased a load of decals and the instructions say not to use model or auto paints as they are to hot for the ink and to use floor polish, i did use floor polish and it came out reasonably shiny but was very runny when applied through my air brush
