1964 Impala
Did ones of these years ago, when I first started to get into the really modifying models. It was horrible, never finished it properly... Got the paint idea from a hotwheels car, its all brushed straight from Tamiya jars.
I loved those wheels so much that I put them on just about all of my models...
Very hard to look at those pics these days lol All those ruined models...
I really loved the look of the 64 Impala with that paint and those wheels, it just looked mean to me, so Iv decided to give it another try... there'll be a bunch of stuff Im gunna do differently... But I want the overall look to be the same-ish. Started on the wheels, making the back one bigger, hoping to cast them at some point. Heres where I'm at as I type...

Re: 1964 Impala
did a tad on the front wheel this evening, smoothing out the rim of it so its not so regid, the size difference between the front and back is kinda ridiculous, but I rekon the stance is almost perfect to what I want... trying to think of what engine and interoir ideas I could incorporate. not sure if I want it blown yet, but I do know I want an engine in there

Re: 1964 Impala
got a teensy bit done on the actual model, my favorite part is the blackwash also got myself some BMF and had a little practice with it... its really tricky stuff I rekon...
used tamiya smoke colour, I rekon its a tad nicer than just plain black
got the BMF from HobbyOne, was a pretty penny, but it should last me a while, what with the number of models I actually get done
I wouldnt do it that way if it were painted... if cover the raised letters, paint it, then sand the raised letter ever so gently to reveal the BMF, then do the top and bottom trim... still need loads more practice obviously, but Ill get there. oh i used a earcleaner to press it down to fit the shape.
sorry for the bad pics

Re: 1964 Impala
Never used BMF before (never get that close to finishing a build lol), but I've heard that rather than sanding the paint of the raised areas, a earbud with thinners is used. Just what I heard, don't take my word for it
Looking good mate, 'specially that grille

I hear ya on finishing em haha, never heard that thinner method though, perhaps I should look around for some tutorials... do you remember the one someone did on a ford galaxie about the raised lettering? Hey mate, I just had a look through all the pages of the How to's and Q's, Couldn't find anything about the raised letter BMF.
Unless it's under a silly irrelevant name, I don't think it's here.

Re: 1964 Impala
Lol I looked through all the tutorials too, didn't find the BMF one, but I did find a heap of handy old ones I'd forgotten about
Here's one that's basically the same idea- http://www.modelcarsmag.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=22075&hl=script
He actually sands it too. I guess BMF is tougher than I thought.

Re: 1964 Impala
Either or.
You can use a cotton bud dipped in thinners or polish (not sand) the paint off of the lettering. It depends on the paint, what you are cleaning it off and if you want to dab thinners on your freshly applied paintjob.
I tend to use the polishing method more than the thinners one.
