In my experience it can be something as seemingly ordinary as sneezing or something as obvious as lifting paving slabs.
Sitting for long periods in cheap meeting room chairs often used to be a prime cause back in the day when I had a job that entailed going to meetings.

Model looks good.  I've got the '39 and plan (eventually) to build a Chev/Ford 39/40 gasser pair in red & blue.

Sneezing is something I'm not keen on doing, it's extremely painful at present, even a small cough hurts.

Think it may have been sleeping in aeroplane seat and one half rolled over whilst the other half was kinda wedged in and unable to keep up with the half that rolled over.  It's the only thing I can think of and it was after that flight the pain started.  Another three flights in two days and in the end I had to be helped out of my seat because my back just locked up and I couldn't move.

I've always figured the '39 Chev sedan delivery will build as a neat street rod.  On the other hand the same year Chev coupe is such a frumpy design I'm not sure what to do with it.  Always makes me wonder how GM could have gone from an almost perfect design in '37/8 to the '39/40 whilst Ford went the other way, using and even perfecting GM's short roof, smooth curves & long deck formula for their timeless '39/40 coupe.

I don't know if this will help you Carps, but I use some stuff called ZEN it is in a red & white spray bottle, you will smell like a peppermint paddy, but it works

My money would be on the flying being to blame.
Being the height you are you'd be hard to package even into a Business Class seat.

Thanx Blat, I've had the steroid (cortizone) injection into the damaged joint and it's starting to work.

Fred, one of the questions is why has it taken this long, I'm in a plane for two or more trips every week and have been doing so for well over 20 years, so much so that I can get on a plane and be alseep before it leaves the ground, only waking up when it hits the dirt at the other end. I also use all the different seating applications, from 'sardine' to 'king', never with any problem.

So what's changed?
New chair?
New car?
New exercise regime?

When mine plays up I can usually pinpoint exactly what I did (exercising too hard is the culprit at the moment) but they can be very mysterious things and sometimes it's just "sleeping funny".
I steer away from anything invasive like injections and also avoid painkillers if I can.  Best thing for me is chiropractic adjustment.  But to each his/her own.  If it works then stick with it.

Nothing yet, but I'm told they all will.  The ergonomics team will be visiting my office tomorrow, I've been driving a bigarsed SUV for the more verticalentry and exit and I'll continue to walk a few Ks every day, more is better.
 
Can't do the painkillers, they have an aadvers effect on the stuff that keeps my heart pumping and blood flowing.
Considering I was locked up and unable to move, and now I'm working almost normally, albeit with a level of discomfort, the Doc's call was OK and a lot less invasive than the other option.

The fusing of the vertebrae option?
The odds of paralysis never seem to get low enough on that one.

Where do you work on your builds?
When I built my bench I made it high enough that I can work standing at it if I am having trouble sitting.

My 'table' is an old reception desk set into the back corner of my garage, but I also have a drawing board where I do my pinstriping that can be set up as a standing height worktable, which I guess means I've got it covered both ways.

After a few months of travelling I'm finally home with a few hours to spare for some relaxation.

Si I got stuck into the '37 Chevy I started before I departed all those months ago.



Chassis is basically done and the wheels all sorted so they mount neatly.



The Olds power plant fits neatly in the space previously occupied by the stove bolt sicks.





The Olds engine is a marvel and looks almost too good to hide in an engine bay..



The try carb manifold is from the AMT Buick and sids on a spacer attached beneath it and glued to the engine.  I think I'll add some fuel lines when I get back to it.





Doesn't matter which angle it's viewed from it's simply a jewel.




Oh, Harry's 1/1 scale '37 coupe is no longer a nine second street car, I was there when it ran 8.91 albeit with what could have been disasterous consequences.

Close enough, it's darker than appears in the pics, images of the engine in situ are closer to real colour.

The yellow is supposed to be zinc chromate/cad plate, but didn't quite work out and I couldn't be bothered redoing it.

The alternator is also not correct for the engine, but the stock generator doesn't clear the multiple carbs.

Love the look of that motor.  The stance on the 37 with those wheels and tyres is just right.  But I am wondering how much you pay that little guy to help you work on the car. He must be handy for getting in those tight spots when your fingers are too big.
