32 Ford roadster – Bob McGee tribute
Hi guys. Been ages since I been on here coz I been doing too much of this:
Anyhow, I actually finished up a model today, so here it is.
I’ve been wanting to build a tribute to Bob McGee’s perfect 32 roadster for a while but didn’t have a roadster kit to base it on, so when the new Revell Rat Roaster kit came out I thought it was a good opportunity. The windscreen is already chopped, it has a traditional-style firewall and I had a nice resin up-top from Carbon Copy Resin generously donated by John Goschke.
It’s mainly Rat Roaster based with a few panels from the Revell 5W coupe and a flathead from a '48 Ford. I cut the trunk out to replace with a louvred one from a 5W coupe and grafted some louvers into the kit hood after cutting out the ‘port holes’. Also changed the gas tank to an 'old' Revell deuce version. The Rat Roaster tank is tucked under the body too much.
Front axle got a set of '34 Ford wish bones - rear is out of box. I created some tall bias ply rears by adding in a pie shaped section to a normal sized tyre, hollowing it out and then wrapping the tread around a narrowed set of Revell deuce front tyres. Sorta like a re-tread. I used the wheels and trim rings from the Revell 5W coupe kit, with BMF on ‘48 Ford for the front. The caps are smoothies from a 56 vicky kit.
I had to update the 'Rat Roaster' interior to something more acceptable. Door trims are plastic card sections glued over the kit panels. Seat is cut down from a ZZ Top kit. I had a lot of trouble getting the interior to fit - particularly the dash hitting the top of the cowl. Had to bust out the dremel and do some grinding.
More pics and a bit of a build thread here if you’re interested:

Re: 32 Ford roadster – Bob McGee tribute
Sensational work as always Bryce.
The McGee/Scritchfield Roadster is an iconic machine in US hot rodding and has had so many rebuilds it offers up a multitude of options for the model builder.
Those rear tyres are awesome, somebody should make them in resin or whatever for the aftermarket, I reckon they'd be very popular.
On not having any Deuce roadster kits on hand, I'm shocked, I thought everybody should have at least a dozen or so.
