Scania 3 series
Thought I'd do a scania, like them...I actually opened a kit !!
Single drive 3 series, was lining up to do a bogie drive P/Mover.
Had all reference, mocked it up, made the tanks. Made a dash.
I was looking for blueprints, spec sheets on Scania Sweden website, translate the page it's easy.....There was a absolute load of dimensioned engineering dwgs there, so i down loaded a 3 series, tri drive, twin steer set of drawings (ACAD format)
Mocked it up to the specs,
Looked at my foot and thought...well gives you something to do?
Two front drives and one rear from the inter bins.
Mount all the ancillary stuff
The plans from scania show a big tipper body, so that's what it'll be with a bogie tri tipper dog....Why not
Cheers

Re: Scania 3 series
Love the transformation of the Scania. What size C channel did you use to stretch the frame? I'm looking at doing something similar but am not sure what size I should buy.
Also, did you scratch build those fuel tanks? They are really well done.

Re: Scania 3 series
Just a Sunday update on the Scania,....Made the first body today, I was dicking around with Autocad yesterday, way to go is the body truck and (maybe) two dogs, might be one. See how I go.
Still some stuff to finish on the body, but it got cold and dark in the shed so....
Tomorrows another day.
" />
First cut, body sitting in place.
" />
" />
Mocking up for the tailgate, bits to do around the back.
" />
" />" />
Hydraulic Tank.....will do some bits and pieces to busy it up.
Hoist plate...probably do that tomorrow.
Still looking for a Livery,...maybe a "hypothetical" Marley's ......Not sure which way to go yet.
If tomorrow is like today here...I'll decal out the Caltex and Linfox, then I can put them out of the way.
Cheers.

Monday with the Scania.
Did a bit more on the scania,...I don't know about you blokes, but as I said..I had a tipper with Large dog trailer in mind when I started this one. I still wasn't sure what to make of it, could not picture who had one, and thought..just a hypothetical heavy tipper ? Looked at some finnish and swedish bulk chip haulers on site, but the dogs were 40'..but I didn't want to make a long dog..(got shitloads)
So I sacrificed the chassis off a revel road train trailer, and started a 36' (foot) dog for it. Cut the sides, back plate and tail gate, was looking across the bench...I have had a Volvo loader for ages, and kept thinking...chop up one of the Revell...heavy duty trailers; you don't like them..(nor the road train trailers)..and make a tri tag along with the Volvo on the back......but I was thumping down the path of the short dog, so I kept going.
But the tag float with Volvo excavator is (probably) going behind this.
" />
Finished the truck body yesterday, apart from incidentals.
" />
Knocked up the dog.
" />
" />
Just a aside, when I was doing the truck body I was looking at 5mm x 2.5mm strip for the reinforcement, and top/bottom strengthening...on both bodies. I didn't have any evergreen stuff. Looked at what I needed....About $60:00 (with free postage..!!)
So I cut strips out of sheet.
This is the point I'm trying to make. Over the years, I have driven past....Sign makers, and plastic welding businesses.....If you call into these places and ask.
They have a shitload of offcut hips, (styrene), vinyl... I (albeit years ago) bought 1200 x 2400 sheets of .5mm, 1.0mm, 2.0mm (2 TW0) of each for $12:00 each from a signmaker adjacent to Solid Solutions (where I get my casting stuff) in Mordiallic..Melbourne.
From a Plastic welding place...I got 30 strips of .5mm hips 300mm x 1200mm...for nothing, and various sizes of the rod he used as filler.
I do not think I will use all of this before I die.
Do the math. 14" x 8" evergreen cost what...$8:00 for 2, 3 pieces ?
Look around....call in ...ask. Costs nothing to try.
Back to the point.

How it sits @ 5:00pm Monday.
Yep !! tomorrow's another day...
Will see what happens.

Re: Scania 3 series
Looking good Clea. Just an observation from a bloke who has damaged both, the drawbar probably needs to be longer and lower if the truck is to tip with the dog still hooked up. A forward mounted/hung tailgate will help lift it over the drawbar but yours is rear hung. If it is a semi on a roadtrain dolly then all good.

Re: Scania 3 series
Good pickup Tim; got distracted doing super one day, sat the dog up on it arse, I thought I had popped the tailgate....but....they bend at the ringfeder eye and........You just cannot get them to release.
Only did it once.
No Tim, I can't tip this set hooked up, clearance between bodies is to small, so I have to unhook the dog...all the time, to do the truck.
Do you want a small load of sawdust delivered...?
(I'll have to show Tiking what the FJ is, then get back to work)
