Revell Mr Norms dodge dart nearing completion
This kit is the first one I've built after a 20 year break. Guessing it was 5 year's ago when I started it. It's mainly painted with automotive acrylic. I come across a video of Gerald Wingrove and that inspired me to add the extra detail and get back into the hobby. With the weathering I was aiming for a daily driver from around 30 years ago. Just a few trims and it will be done.

Nice work Stu and just the right amount of weathering to achieve the desired effect!

They are bonnet trims, wiper blades and mirrors. I've super glued them to nails so I can handle them while I airbrush. To dull the chrome a little.

I do this with all the small items for paint. Brush or airbrush. Just choose an area where you're not going to see where it was attached.

WOW!!! what a great idea!... I always fiddle with a pair of tweezers, but this is a great way of doing what you
want then putting it aside without the part flipping onto its painted side.

If painting the whole item with a wet coat. I have a block of timber with holes drilled to place them in upright.

Sleep on it for a few days Stuart. Then it will come out how you want. Don't rush it!....

Cleaned up the bumper. But I ruined the other set of number plates. First set rubbed off, well they didn't seem to adhere very well. Second set didn't want to release off the paper. I'm guessing age and the box being unsealed for quite awhile is the cause. Which concerns me because I have a few unsealed kits. I bought decal paper for an ink jet printer which I haven't tried. That's the next experiment.

Re: Revell Mr Norms dodge dart nearing completion
Thanks ozmodeller. I've made the decals for the number plates. I could of just glued printed paper, but it was a good excuse to try ink printer decal sheet. Had a Californian plate kicking around the shed which I took a pic of and printed. Had to seal them with clear so the ink wouldn't run.
Was working well until I slid the front plate off. Printer doesn't print white. It was quite apparent that the colours needed the white mix. So it was a quick paint with gloss white and back with the plate. Result is questionable but I'm running with it. A couple of touch ups and off to the showroom.

Re: Revell Mr Norms dodge dart nearing completion
G'day there Stuart... mate so far this build is looking AWESOME!... real nice work.
Couple of hints mate... any parts that you want to "de-chrome"... chuck them into a container
of household Bleach. Chrome will dissapear in about 1/2 hour. Small printed items such as number plates
etc. once printed onto decal paper... a couple of brushed on coats of clear " Nail Varnish' seals the deal.
Looking forward to seeing this Ol' girl finished.
