1951 Thames Van (Revell)
G'day everyone... I dug this kit out and decided to build it but with my own spin on it. A bit of a "flimsy" model to build but still a bit of fun.
Converted to R/H drive which was easy to do. R/H door converted to "suicide" opening. In keeping with the Pie theme (Simple Simon), I printed
my own set of decals. Rather than building it as a Gasser, I went for more the Stock look with traditional wheels and tyres.
Changed the 2 outward swing rear doors to a one piece door.
I cut the front guards away from body and attached to the bonnet. Hinged for full forward tilt.
Still with a bit of "Sting" under the bonnet and scratch built exhaust system.
Anyway there she is. Any comments positive or negative are always welcome. Thanks for looking in.

Re: 1951 Thames Van (Revell)
Thanks guys for looking in. Peters Icecream was establishished in N.S.W. around 1907 and progressed to Vic. & W.A.
In 1962 Peters set up a bakery in Perth and started producing their famous pies etc. With other fast food companies overtaking
the market, eg. K.F.C. , Hungry Jacks & Mc D's, Peter's stopped production of their wares in 1986. However Peters icecreams
still remain today.
Just a little bit of trivia for you guys!.

Wow Jezza, that's cool. When I was a youngster in Sydney (mid 60's) we had a local "Peters" ice cream van that was a Thames van like yours only red,and the driver actually rang a bell ! Brought back some memories and I like the trivia !

That looks awesome. Good job. I remember building that kit years ago. Didn't get close to your detail.

Re: 1951 Thames Van (Revell)
Thanks to you guys for looking in and for your comments. Many a great memories from our younger years 1960's... Mr Whippy (Commer Ice cream Vans), Bread & Milk delivery trucks, even (in our suburb of Bentley WA), every week a vendor would cruise the streets in a Morris Commercial truck loaded with fruit & veg. He would sound a Klaxton horn to let the housewives know he was in the area. He would hand out small carrots to the kids in the street. Those were the days!...

That is a very cool conversion Jerry. I was expecting to see a little four banger under the hood but whoa! this puppy delivers the pies in style. You are right, both the Revell Thames and Anglia take a bit of extra love to make a nice model from. I have to learn how to do decals like you do - they add a great finishing touch.
They say great minds think alike. Re the Whippy van, I had good intentions of building one for the club beach scene several years ago. I went as far as photocopying my original Corgi Commer and adjusting the settings until I had a set of front, side and rear images in 1/25th scale. I was going to carve a wooden mould for the front clip and build the rest from flat styrene but work based travel came along and killed that idea. One day.....
I reckon golf tees would make a very good start on the ice creams and I am always on the lookout in the Red Dot/2$ type shops for cheap dolls accessories because you sometimes find that sort of thing amongst those items.
Congrats on a great little pie van!
Cheers
Alan

Re: 1951 Thames Van (Revell)
G'day there Alan, great to hear from you mate and thanks for your comments. Golf Tees sounds like a great idea. Funny how if you let your imagination go, you can come up with model parts from toys & everyday household items, eg. "BIC" disposable plastic razor handles make great console centers, airscoops etc.
Anyway hope to hear from you a bit more mate. Take care.

Nice! The Anglia and Thames are two of my favorite subjects......along with the Henry J.
These kits have what we called a lot of "fiddly little bits" to deal with.....despite them, you did a fine job.

Re: 1951 Thames Van (Revell)
[quote="Jezza"]I agree and so does "Mrs Jezza"... I would love to replicate a model of a Mr Whippy van, but not
only would there be a lot of work in building the Ice-cream machinery... the 2 ice-cream lights on
the front of the roof would be very hard to replicate?... but then again....?
Have a look at dolls house and G-scale railroad stuff online, you might come across something you could use.
hey, if they make an oil slick for putting under your 1/25 car (I've seen it!), they might make ice creams!
Oh, and if ever anyone wants stock wheels for this or an Anglia, MPC '71-2 Vega stock wheels are accurate!
