Dingo -A bit of educational assistance required here : There are two versions of The Italian Job, the one you alluded to with the Mini's and the earlier version made in 1969( I think,) which also used Mini Coopers but for everyone who has seen the start of the original movie remember the Lamborghini Miura with an Italian dude winding his way through some very twisty mountain roads then dissappears into a tunnel. It then turns nasty? It was disgusting ; you'll have to see the movie to see what I mean, It stars Michael Caine, not a bad movie either.

Ron I haven't seen the new version so I wouldn't know about those Mini's all I know about is the ones used in the older one but if you say there where Lambos at the start of the old one I ain't arguing with that after all it was a long time ago and I'm nearly well "old" anyway. But thanks for pointing it out I'll go through our DVD collection and se if we have the older version and take a gander.

Dingo , The highlight of the original movie 'were' those Mini's, but for me and other fanatics of the Lambo in the first few minutes leading up to the destruction of a Lamborghini is still painful to watch, then ,and even now . Even 40 years on , and yeah I'm gettin old too, I still cringe at what they did to a Lambo, but it was only a movie.

Ron I'm not a great Lambo man but "O My god wrecking such a nice car" where they mad or just plain stupid, I think I'll have to search my local DVD hire shop or ask the guy if he still has a copy and have a look at that. I can't remember but didn't they push the Mini's over a cliff or something like that in the end Ron.

Dingo , I have found out some time ago that the Lambo they wrecked had a damaged chassis, no engine and for the movie the body panels were hastily made fibreglass replica's . I hadn,t watched the movie for awhile so I should get the DVD from video store and watch it before I go back to work next Monday. doh

If anyone wants to see the opening scene from the original "Italian Job" here is the link on You Tube. Thankfully as big bad custom says, it was only a body shell on a wrecked chassis that went over the cliff for the movie. What an opening!

Ah, Tezza43, I see you found the footage of the opening scene. What horrified me when I saw the movie for the first time was that I assumed they destroyed a perfectly good one as I had been back from Italy a few years after being there when Lambo released the Miura and I saw many on the road there and at the Turin Motor Show in 1967. So that was my Italian Job experience when I saw an orange one in the Swiss Alps near where we lived at the time, plus the orange and blue ones (featured) that I saw on the way to School in Milan Italy. Hope you all enjoy the footage ;before the tunnel.

Cheers Ron
