Re: 65 Galaxie 500 XL
The Airstream Caravan looks like it was constructed of sheet aluminium curved in one plane only.
Therefore it'd be feasible (if very fiddley) to build one from styrene sheet.
Sounds like a job for SuperShoey...

Re: 65 Galaxie 500 XL
I'd be interested in the resin bits as I have one of these, and one of my Galaxies should be built as a stocker. I say that every time I start one, but it has not happened yet.
That van looks cool behind the big Ford, something to think about.

Great work on fixing the interior Bryce.I owned a couple of big block 66 Galaxies up till recently.Have many 64,65,66 Galaxie kits stashed for the future. They will probobly get done as vintage/historic stock cars. You are certainly pumping out some great models lately Bryce.

Re: 65 Galaxie 500 XL
Thanks for all the support guys.
Have been working on some wheels for this one using Paul's gel pen whitewall trick and a lot of patience. Hardest part about these is that the whitewall needs to be quite close to the rim and I found it hard to centre the tyre in the template. They are also quite a thick stripe on these cars, so I had to go over it more than once using a couple of different sized circles. It took a lot longer than I anticipated, but pretty happy with the results:
Also been working on the chassis and engine. Have basically been combining the best bits of the '65 and '66 kits to get the most detail.

Re: 65 Galaxie 500 XL
This is shaping up to be one of the nicest builds I've seen from you Bryce. The work you've done so far is pure magic, in fact it would make a great story for a modelling magazine. Looking forward to seeing the final product.

Re: 65 Galaxie 500 XL
Interior is mostly done – here’s a pic with some paint thrown on and my scratchbuilt armrests in situ. Decided to stick to the original plan and go with red on the inside and outside – it’s much more of a mid 60s feel I reckon. Pretty happy with how this has turned out – definitely well worth the effort.
I also discovered a nifty trick while painting this. I had applied some dark brown to the woodgrain area of the dash and noticed that the red enamel was slightly opaque and came up a different colour when applied over the brown. So I used this to differentiate the dashboard, parcel shelf and seat inserts – just for a bit of visual interest…mono interiors get pretty boring otherwise.

Very nice.
Like the fact you've put door lock knobs on the interior.

Re: 65 Galaxie 500 XL
Thanks guys.
Interior is all finished now – here it is with seats, dash and seat belts installed:
Also finished wiring up the engine and it is now installed. Still need to add heater hoses but I’ll do that once it’s in the car.
Had a few dramas with distributor cap and air cleaners hitting the bonnet due to the fact that everything is sitting higher now that I have effectively channelled the body over the chassis to remove that unsightly chassis rail from the side of the car. Had to grind away most of the front crossmember to make the engine sit lower and now everything seems to be working OK.
Couldn’t resist a quick mock up to check everything fits:
