the chrysler was the luxury model so theres a few changes to the interior but as these are kinda minor and its gunna be a street car i am not going to worry too much about them, the major difference is the grille and tailights

I really like those CM model wrap around bumpers - damn good looking front, especially with hidden headlights. Was a shame they were the last...

Shoey, Chrysler made the "Town & Country" ute with the Chrysler wrap-round bumper it also had a vinyl roof and a set of 5 spoke steel mag type rims (from memory) it's been a long time since I last worked at Chrysler Tonsley Park Adelaide so please forgive me if I'm not quite right on some of the fittings. The Town & Country ute was their idea of a sports ute didn't quite work as they thought it would but a good try back in those days and yes Chrystal by Chrysler is a funny way of calling a luxury car ???????.

No, the Chrysler by Chrysler was just a stretched , luxo'd-up Valiant. Sorta like a Fairlane was to the Falcon, or a Statesman was to a Kingswood. Many of the panels interchange with the Valiant. The US had nothing that looked like it.

I was a teenage car nut when they came out, and I remember how proud I was that our local manufacturers were coming out with their own intermediates!

pretty sure these were only made in small numbers (about 2000 total of all models and variants) covering models from VH to VK they were based on the valiant coupe the main difference being different grille and tail lights, i have an article here about one that was made from a regal coupe: ie same body different chrome.

The Chrysler by Chrysler was build in both 2 & 4 door versions and around 3000 where build in both versions. through the VH-VK range it was stretched some 6 inches overal not 5 and the rear window was narrowed up and made smaller to look like a limo, the stretch was done at the centre pillar the front fenders and rear guards as well the front bumper was the only imported part of the whole car it came from the U.S. variant of the same car but the rest of the car is Oz designed and built.
My father had one of these cars and it had a 380ci motor in it and a holley 4 barrel, we travelled from Adelaide to Broome and back in it with only one bit of trouble, a broken exhaust system 14 kilometers south of Pt Wakefield north of Adelaide, it was a great car with levels of comfort not seen in a car of it's day.

I think you mean a 318 or a 360 Dingo - no such thing as a 380ci V8 in Aussie mopars.

apart from the 390 fitted to some ford galaxies that were assembled here the Chrysler 360 was the largest engine fitted to any mass produced Aussie car

Sorry Byrce and dv8v8 but unless U where a Chrysler employee and worked for more than 10 years with the company you didn't get it the 380 did live back then and my brother who also worked in the plant got it put in for my father, my brother had been with the company for around 15 yrs before me and there where a lot of thing that Chrysler workers could get that the public buyer didn't know about Yes the 360 was the largest motor of the showroom floor but in the factory workers could get what they wanted.

Are you sure your not confusing "380" with "340" Dingo as there is no such thing as a "380 ci", Australia only used 318, 340 (VH '72 option) and 360. There is a 383 but it was never used here as far as I know.

....and i highly doubt this 380 would fit in a Valiant's engine bay!!

Can't seem to get it through to you guys ( it seems magazine article are more belivable these days than former workers) so I'm not going there anymore as a former Chrysler Aust. Ltd. worker and the brother of a 30 yr worker who worked in the engine dept I'll leave for all you poeple to figure out how factory workers could get what they wanted including bigger motor and larger outstandng tow packages. For me subject closed.
