Re: Redback
Thanks guys.
I think the scariest part would be driving it as forward visibility would be practically zero and due to a slight oversight (or rather eagerness on the part of the builder - ahem) it has no front brakes.
As that front axle had already been glued back together twice (body & chassis from rescued glue bomb - arrived with broken axle & then it let go again during construction) there was no way I was game to try and pull off the superglued front wheels when I realised.
You'd also have to climb in and out of the passenger side door as the drivers side extractor is a bit close to the body.
Oh, and there's no starter motor on the double whammy engine and I forgot to put a radiator cap on.
But apart from those minor points it's got the look I was after
Next Rod build will either be a fairly sedate Revell '32 Sedan with a Nailhead (tentatively named "blue car") or a Parts Pack T Bucket (called Trebuchet) with this...

Re: Redback
When I get bored I put together engines from my parts boxes.
I sat this in the Redback chassis to see how it looks.
The tops of the ram stacks were higher than the roof.

Thanks yelgem.
Those are ThePartsBox stacks. You might notice there are also a couple of them on The Redback. I can't stop using them.

Re: Redback
Man, that would give me the shivers if I saw that coming up behind me . Awesome build ! I like wild looking engines. Scarier than that little 8 legged critter by far . Makes Hadfields "Redback " look a bit woosey, doesn't it? How do you top that Zenrat?

Re: Redback
Hadfield's Redback?
I'll have to do a search for that. Not one of his i'm aware of.
This wasn't really planned. I was trying things out on a glue bomb I got in a trade & it sort of developed it's own character as it grew. Engine had been in my parts box for yonks ever since I put a Turbo Rotary in the Stude' it came from.
Don't know about topping it. That level of detail on an engine is certainly not something i'm going to do on every build.

Re: Redback
Zenrat Hadfield's Redback was a '48 Anglia sedan painted black with a red stripe over the top of the body and rear. It had chrome wire wheels , big rear tyres , Jag rear , skinny wheels/tyres at front. I think a 289 Ford with Supercharger on top. I saw it around 1975 I think at the Street Rod Nationals in Narrandera. I had heard then that he was doing power on wheelstands down the main sreet there. I think I will have to dig out the photo of that one .

Re: Redback
If the thing is sideways all the time you don't need to look through the front screen..
Looks fantastic Zen, Great concept as well. Cheers.

Thanks.
I'd like to point out that it's cleared with FLOOR POLISH and that some of the wires are from RUBBISH BAG TWIST TIES

Re: Redback
Yeah you did!
Just joshing though - it looks cool and I certainly wouldn't want to come up against it at the lights!
I wouldn't worry too much about the front brakes thing either - Rod Hadfield managed to get this thing registered:
He must know some very influential people at VicRoads...

Re: Redback
Rod still owns that car, it runs a supercharged 350 Chevy, MGB front suspension, jag rear., wire wheels etc.Dunno if it ever pulled a wheelstand although it does have wheelie bars but I reckon they were more for effect that purpose.

Yeah, he sure does. I remember reading in one of the mag's when he'd just finished his '55 Chev with the Merlin ( or was it an allison, can't remember) that he was close friends with the Vic minister for transport who had personally seen to it that the '55 was given FULL vic registration. Amazing for a car that far from legal or even safe for the street. Fantastic car, I love it and I'm not knocking his work or contributions to the sport but I thought it was one rule for all in our great country where everyone is equal.
Guess it really is who you know not what.
