51 Henry J Gasser FINISHED
Gday guys, while waiting for some detail parts to finish my Camaro in the muscle car section, I have decided to add a Gasser to my collection. So this hopefully going to be a fairly simple quick build, probably just minimal wiring, fuel lines etc. So guys if there are any dodgy fitting parts or you have any tips please feel free to pass them on. Thanks for you interest.

Re: 51 Henry J Gasser FINISHED
Gday guys its been a while!! Anyway just a few update pics on my Henry J, All I can say is the motor is terrible! Nothing fits right and the detail is very average! The chassis has been painted in light green as is the engine block, All the chrome was stripped using Coke and painted in various metallizers and plumbed using detailmaster products, it's been slow but am getting there sort of, lol!
Cheers

Re: 51 Henry J Gasser FINISHED
Yeah it's a pretty old and crappy kit that one. Good work so far though - your detail painting has really brought it to life!
You use Coke to strip chrome? How does that go?
Have you moved to Geelong?

Re: 51 Henry J Gasser FINISHED
Thanks Bryce, yeah it is very crappy, lol! Bryce I fill a cup with coke throw the parts in and it isnt as quick as other methods but give it a day or two and the parts are chrome free, and we drink the stuff, lol! Yeah mate, had a break up so I am building a house in Geelong now. Oh well these things happen.

Re: 51 Henry J Gasser FINISHED
I built it years ago as a kid but you would think they would of improved it over the year's but what you have done so far looks good to a other wise crappy kit.
Cheers Tony.

Re: 51 Henry J Gasser FINISHED
Thanks guys, Tony it's still crap, lol!!! The two piece front spindles were a nightmare! Yep Tom, it takes a while but works well and it's cheap. Anyway finally got my machined pulley set so the engine is now pretty much complete, extractors have also been stripped and painted. Also just got a set of 12 spoke altered front wheels and tyres, so I hope to get this one done soon.

Adam Just watching how your Henry is coming together . Great Work! My "J " Model Henry is a bit slower due to narrrowed rear chassis and the roof chop plus other mods . See how yours turns out;should be good.

Re: 51 Henry J Gasser FINISHED
Thanks for the comments guys, Yeah BBK, was getting right into your build, can't wait till you fire up on it again. Anyway got the back wheels glued on, i ended using the kit slicks and a pair of chrome steelies, think they're of an old AMT 57. the front wheels are finished and just waiting to be glued. I used the before mentioned 12 spokers and tyres from Comp Resins and they are fantastic. so should have the motor etc all finished up shortly.
Cheers

Re: 51 Henry J Gasser FINISHED
That old Henry 'J' is coming along nicely. I like the challenge of taking crappy parts and making something good with them, and your efforts so far are outstanding.
BTW Coca Cola has a fair amount of phosphoric acid in its formula, and that's why the chrome plating disappears from the plastic. It was a common trick in my youth to place a copper penny into a cup of Coke overnight and it would be bright and shiny like new the next day.
Another useless fact from Tezza!

Your Henry J looks great, nice clean build whether it's a good kit or not.
Those body decals look cool, are you planning on using them?

Re: 51 Henry J Gasser FINISHED
Gday guys got the interior all done, nothing trick was going to add extra detail but am just over this kit to be honest, so i have just painted it and drilled out the steering wheel, the colour of the dash and roll bar is an indication of the body colour, hopefully finish off the paint today.

Henry J
I just finished one of these last week and after everything fitting right during the build after final painting the stinking bonnet don't close properly, I will just display it with the bonnet open but keep checking, the doors also drop as soon as you open them, need to be tightened up in the hinge area, cheers Rob
