Scammel Crusader.
I started this as something to muck around with while watching the Tour de France at night. It is a 1:76 scale Airfix kit.
This represents about 4 hours work last night.
This has some of the worst parts mismatch and crappy tooling I've ever seen. I wont complain about old AMT kits again.
For $10 it is not to bad, and can be a nice little model with a bit of work and patience.

Re: Scammel Crusader.
Bloody hell...different! Not my cup of tea, but hey we live and learn.
I think the dollar coin needs a couple of more coats though and gold might be a better colour for it.

Re: Scammel Crusader.
I reckon building something completely different can only make you a better modeller for it, and gives you a new perspective on techniques and finishes. It's a brave move and I hope to see more of this truck model as it progresses.

Re: Scammel Crusader.
your showing your age their Bear. It might be an old kit but you are right it does come up very nice. It a shame that the only 1/35 scale one that I know of is a resin one that you have to sell your sole to afford it think it was over 300 pound in 2003 I would love to build it one day. keep up the good work Steve am going to watch this..

Re: Scammel Crusader.
Thanks guys.
Monaro, no Tank for this. I only buy soft skins, not into tracked stuff. The only tracked vehicle I have is a Tamiya 1:35 Kettenkrad, which needs to be repaired. Am thinking about putting a broken down or damaged truck on the trailer some time.
Kynan, I remember that resin kit. Made a fantastic model, but who could afford it.

Re: Scammel Crusader.
Steve It will Look good with a battle damaged truck one the back.
I read every right up on the resin kit when it was released. It was the same as the Faun SLT_56 Tank Transporter I wanted badly but could not afford. But luckily that has since be released by Trumpeter so now I have two off them on the go the SLT (Armored) and the SLT-56 ( non Armored) might take some pictures and post the as well and before anyone says it it not going to have a tank on it like Steve only do soft skin and no tracks
Before any one comments about me and military stuff look at were I live and think about it Townsville has been RAAF and ARMY in very large numbers since the 1940's we dot just have a Mog or a land rover or two driving on the roads every day but APC's, Bushmaster's, DUKW's and tank transporters you name it you see it its like cars on the road and if your a plane person we have the second largest runway in Aus we get everything here we had two US galaxy's flying over about 15 minutes ago if you live here it become normal thing to see

Re: Scammel Crusader.
Kynan, sounds like the place to be if your into military. So Trumpeter do the Fauns in plastic, 1:35 scale & and how much. I've wanted Tamiyas Dragon Wagon since it came out, but can't justify the price. Recently I found a 1:72 Academy version that is very detailed, so that took care of that must have.
Here is last nights work.
Getting all the rear suspension to set
Ready for paint
Start on the trailer tonight.

Re: Scammel Crusader.
Trumpeter do the SLT-56 kit # 00203 in 1/35 for about $100 mark
to do the SLT is not hard to do their are some good reference sites on the web with enough info to convert it.
compared to the offering from other manufacture's it well priced but has a few sink makes in it that need to be filled but they are not to deep but for the price its a good kit if you like modern military vehicles

Re: Scammel Crusader.
I don't have the patience or the steady hands to do 1/76 any more. Shame really as they don't take up much room.
Looks good Steve.
The chain drive transfer case system to get drive from the axle to the wheels looks almost identical to those still used on Caterpiller Graders.

Re: Scammel Crusader.
Last update before I start painting. The ramps are badly designed on this trailer. Too much free play everywhere. Pics will show what I done.
Also replaced the pivot axle for the suspension as it was a major weak point. Used some plastic coated wire, much stronger now.
All works good now.
Functioning turn table.
Now to decide whether it is to be military paint job, or war surplus used in civilian work.

and sponsored by "Army Racing Team"! Wow what a sight that would be at Bathurst.
That's coming along very nicely - I like your extra detail and thoroughness with the building.

Re: Scammel Crusader.
OK Steve. If a Toyota engine with working internals can be scratchbuilt then the least you can do is knock up a wired & plumbed engine for this one...
