Jimmy Means 1991 Pontiac
Well i started this one in the GAS section but never got around to it. I sort of lost interest in the Camel car as there were a few fit issues so i put it away and have now started on this one.
I love the look of this car and have thought i might do a combined version of the one above as the JNJ decals i have do not have the chrome numbers, but i do like the silver wheels on the version below.
Just been working with an old chassis and body so far. I hate cleaning these chassis up. As you can see the body is made up of a few kits as well as the chassis. I have been rubbing down the old paint and reworking the rear bumper blending.

Still working away on trying a few new things for me. I have added extra bars at the front, not sure if they are 100% accurate or not but no one here in OZ will know. I could not go much higher with the horizontal bar as it would hit the body and i did not want to do too much work there.
I have also removed the molded in headrest and replaced the bar that was cut out.

Re: Jimmy Means 1991 Pontiac
Why not try BMF for the numbers, ultra chrome would be the best, I would only use it for flat surfaces tho, doesn't bend as well as normal chrome foil. HTH

There was a sheet done with the chrome numbers, if you notice the font for Alka-Seltzer also changed the following season. I have found out Jimmy ran any sort of wheel he could as he was a true independant and got by with whatever.

Re: Jimmy Means 1991 Pontiac
Thanks Allan i see now but when i did a search it was originally for pretty much everything....hahaha
Well i have hit a snag on this which was annoying. I had everything primed and ready for the grey on the chassis and when i was almost done i noticed there was some bleeding of the red plastic. I have never had this before and was surprised seeing i had used Testors primer which is quite a dark grey. I am toying with the idea of a light dust of flat white and then try again....
Bleed through is on the right corner of fuel tank, slight pinkish colouring.

Re: Jimmy Means 1991 Pontiac
Grrrrrrrrrr - coloured plastic.
Although I used to love it as a kid as it mean't I didn't have to paint the model.
Good work Shunter.
I haven't tried it but it could be possible to print onto BMF for those chrome numbers and headlamp covers. That way you'd get the black surround nice and crisp.
Could be an expensive experiment though if your printer ruins the sheet and also gets foil into it's workings.

Re: Jimmy Means 1991 Pontiac
So i now have a chrome chassis....I have hit it with silver to stop i hope the bleed through of the red plastic. It has been drying for a week now so come the weekend i will try the grey again.
Re: Jimmy Means 1991 Pontiac
Have now decaled and dull cleared the tyres.
I have kept them plain to match that of the ref picture. Now that i look at them i should have washed them to make the white not so bright, but oh well.

Re: Jimmy Means 1991 Pontiac
I decided to paint the body last night. I used Aqueous Hobby Colour H45 Light Blue. When you open the lid it looks nice and pale, in the airbrush bottle it was the same but once on the body it went a tad too dark i feel. This was done over Tamiya white primer. So now i am not too sure if i should give it a rub back and then mix some white into the blue to lighten it up. If you look at the first two pics i have posted they look very light, yet the one below it does look darker....
Re: Jimmy Means 1991 Pontiac
looking good as it is, but if you want it correct you're going to have to add some white
Re: Jimmy Means 1991 Pontiac
I have repainted the body in a lighter shade of blue and i think it is close enough now. I could have gone real powder blue but i do not think it was that light. I have also now cleared the body with 2K and all it needs now is a rub and polish.
These pictures are not really showing the difference i feel in colours but trust me...
I also gave a shot of 2K to the chassis, well i feel some models are just doomed from the start. Check out the bleeding i got yet again with the red plastic coming through. I will give this a bath in Caustic Soda i think and start again with Tamiya primer as i have never had an issue when i have used it. I have no other way i can think of to hide the red area on the firewall. The dash is OK as it will be painted black, and the underside i can cover up i feel but the firewall is a pain, so i think it is best to start again.

Re: Jimmy Means 1991 Pontiac
Back onto this one for now. After the issues of bleed through of the plastic colour, I sanded down the 2K and then hit the body again with the Mr Hobby Light Blue. The 2K worked well as a sealant against the plastic. I have now put the decals on and will give it another shot of 2K to seal it all up. This is the third JNJ I have ever used and they were a real pain. The glue was really thick and left a lot of residue behind which I have now cleaned off. Had a small issue with the large hood logo but with the issues I have had with this one I will be glad to put it to bed.

Re: Jimmy Means 1991 Pontiac
After putting this away for awhile I have now gotten it to this stage. This one has fought all the way with the paint issues etc but I quite like the stance. The paint finish I am not really happy with, there is some orange peel to it but I do not dare tough it again, lets just call it a shelfer. It is almost completed now.
