Re: Beep Beep - 1968 Plymouth Road Runner
Thanks guys.
Paint on the rims is Mr Metal Metaliser (chrome on the lip and a mix on the rest of the wheel) under a coat of brush on acrylic clear gloss. Centres are then done in Testors Model Master Chrome Silver.
i brush the metalisers on over primer coated with clear lacquer.

Looks great Fred. I'll have to show my Dad next time he comes over. He had this exact runner in the 70's, same colour, same wheels.

Re: Beep Beep - 1968 Plymouth Road Runner
Ta folks.
Clutch - spooky!
What you all can't see in the pics is that the clear has crazed on the roof and in a few other places. It's odd, it seems to have crazed underneath as you can't feel it but can see it if you angle it to the light at just the right (wrong!) angle.
It's acrylic paint with acrylic clear so I put it down to either the polish (meguiers scratch x 2.0) I polished the paint with reacting with the first coats of clear or a problem due to leaving the first clear coats for too long before doing more (compressor playing up).

Re: Beep Beep - 1968 Plymouth Road Runner
If ya cleared over polished paint, that'll cause all kinds of problems.
Model looks great regardless and the crazing probably adds to the look of a well used muscle car anyhow.

Love it Zen. I wouldn't change anything about it. those rims set it apart.
Re: Beep Beep - 1968 Plymouth Road Runner
Thanks Shoey.
Carps - i've cleared over polished paint before and it's never been a problem. I'm carefull to use only polish and not wax/polish (been there, done that - didn't read the container and much fisheyes resulted) I use Meguiers Scratch X (enamels) or kitten cutting compound (lacquers) to get them smooth before clearing. AFAIK both of these contain no wax.
Favourite culprit for the crazing is I think a half to 3/4 hour gap between coats of clear while I fiddled with my compressor trying to get it to work properly. I suspect this may have been too long and I should then have left it to gas out completely before continuing.
But who knows? I'm certainly NOT going to try to replicate it.
