Lil Red Rodster
This was inspired by a pic in issue #45 of The Rodders Journal.
AMT '29 Roadster + parts box pieces + The Parts Box pieces.
Won't ride that high. That's just the height my mocking up blocks are.

Thanks guys.
Scratchbuilt floor and interior gives it a scale 2" channel.
Donk is a Revell '40 flattie with a resin twin carby manifold.

Re: Lil Red Rodster
Got some more done on this.
Had delays due to having to figure out how to get the fan at the right height (stock '40 position puts it too low right behind a chassis X member).
Came up with this.
With that done I could mount the engine and sort out the suspension. Since the pics i've added a dash, scratched up some seat mountings for the TPB bomber seats, painted & assembled the brakes and axles and fitted the carbies etc.
I forgot about allowing firewall clearance for the fuel pump so it's just got a blanking plate there and we'll call it an electric fuel pump.
TPB QC is mounted behind a re-arched & thinnned stock spring with scratched up torque tube and wishbone (is it still called the wishbone on the back?).
Front end is TPB resin drop tube with the shock mounts and spring mounting shaved off, stock wishbone pinned in place and steering gear scratched up from stock parts, parts box parts and wire.
Wheels are dechromed Revell '32 Sedan with the tyres fitted so the moulded "whitewall" recess is on the inside.
Anyone know what the thing in the centre of the firewall is supposed to be? Looks a bit like a coil to me. If it is it'll have to go as the '40 flat motor dizzy had a coil built into it.
Chassis will be black with a red body but i'm in 2 minds about the underside & interior.
Can't decide whether to go for black on both, Red oxide underside with black interior or Red interior and underside but over a dark primer to darken the shade up (body will be over white undercoat).
Bomber seats will be aluminium.
The thinking behind this build is that it's a survivor from the 40's that's been pulled out of a barn and been given a freshen up (almost stock flattie dropped in, new wheels and tyres, a clean up and a quick lick of paint) to get it on the road before summers over.

No idea. The Woody/RPU kit has the same thing on the firewall. I assumed it was a coil too.

Looks great , what is your idea for paint (apart from when you said "new wheels and tyres , a clean up and a lick of paint") ?

Re: Lil Red Rodster
I had a mini burst of creativity and carved the "thing" on the firewall off when I got in last night (Mrs z was watching Stargate Atlantis and I know better than to interupt).
The firewall is a bit lumpy bumpy but I want it to look that way - like it's been reshaped with a lump hammer.
Body will be Mazda Sunrise Red (same as the Honda City I did). Probably with no clear as I want it to look like it was rushed.
Firewall? Probably black.
Grille shell and bonnet (if I can get it to fit properly)? Black or Red.
The wheels i've already done in the pics - Aussie Export Appliance White enamel - and i've also since done the front & rear suspension in gloss black with red brakes.
I think the interior needs a bit of texture but not flocking. So I might try the long range spraying (deliberate orange peel) technique

It is an ignition coil on the original firewall. Here's a pic to prove it.

Re: Lil Red Rodster
Thanks Tezza. The AMT firewall is pretty close to the real thing. All it's really missing is the horizontal flange and it's a bit thick.
Allan - Bomber seats mate - bare nekkid aluminium (OK, metaliser) with not even a cushion to pamper the driver's bott bott.
Actually, thinking about it I might make a drivers seat cushion but the pasenger can suffer. The seats are too nice for both of them to have the holes in the base hidden.

Re: Lil Red Rodster
Thanks guys.
Carps - possibly, if it's finished.
not done much more as i've been concentrating on another build that has a deadline of next monday.
in that time I have to polish it and clear it (and weather for the weekend looks crap for painting) and do some small details.
When that's done I can get back to the Lil Red Rodster and paint the body.

Re: Lil Red Rodster
Yep - that sure is red.
Looks like you're building another 4x4 hot rod with that ride height - you gonna lower this thing?

Re: Lil Red Rodster
It is high, but if you want (albeit minimal) suspension travel that's as low as a Model A goes without chassis mods or a seriously dropped axle.
Back end's dropped about 3 scale inches by mounting the spring on the front of the axle instead of the top and grinding away the top of the spring.
Front end is dropped about 5 scale inches by using a 4" drop axle and grinding away the top of the spring.
Body is channelled about 2 scale inches.
Imagine how high it'd sit stock!
Hmmmmm, 4wd rod. Now there's an idea...
