Toyota 2000GT
The Toyota 2000GT is in my opinion the most beautiful production car ever built.
This is the Hasegawa kit built completely box stock*. I even followed the paint call outs.
Jeez that was hard work!
Yes the panel gaps are too dark but blackening them before putting on the top coats of enamel failed me - the paint just covered too well and I had to redo them again before the clear. I probably should have diluted The Detailer a bit more and I definitely should have deepened the engraved lines to make them crisper.
Oh well, you live & learn.
Foil is Hasegawa Mirror Finish. It's really nice to use as it stretches round curves like the screen surround just like BMF doesn't.
*OK, so I "adjusted" the front suspension to get realistic camber and remove massive toe in but I didn't add any parts.

Re: Toyota 2000GT
Wow a Jap version of Jaguar's E-Type and it looks good too. Hey didn't James Bond get into one of these in a movie? Nice work Zen and congratulations on your remarkable self control.

Re: Toyota 2000GT
Thanks guys.
Sean Connery got driven around in a convertible 2000GT in You Only Live Twice.
That however was a one (or actually two) off special. Convertible (drophead coupe I suppose) 2000GTs never went into production.
I think that Toyota did a much better job that Jaguar did. This flows much better than the E type and the roof doesn't look like an afterthought.

Re: Toyota 2000GT
Thanks all.
They are nice Steve. Went together almost like a snap fit in some places. Not quite good Tamiya quality but better than bad Tamiya. Chrome is particularly well thought out with hidden attachment points on all parts except mirrors.
Mirror fitting looked a bit dubious so I filed a flat on the top of the wing and drilled both parts for a pin which made attaching them easy.
There was a little bit of flash but nothing major and mould separation lines on the body were light and easy to sand off.
Glass could have been a better fit but went in OK with a few bits of tape to hold it while the glue dried.
The 7 part lights/grille/radiator assembly went together very easilly and stayed where it was supposed to go with no glue. Ditto for the rear lights.
As I said above, I had to modify the geometry of the front suspension to get the camber and toe in right but I think that could have been avoided with more test fitting when I glued the upper wishbones in place.
Only other tip is to ignore the instrructions and glue the front valance in place right at the start. This lets you fill and smooth the join before painting (I dropped it after painting and had to re glue one side which shows). It might not look like it but the chassis will still just fit into place.
