AJ Foyt's 1989 Dayton 500 OLDS'
I thought I would have a go at using my first sheet of Power Slide decals. I have always liked the OLD's, I just wish Monogram had done what AMT did with the rear window but we can work with it.
Not a big start as yet but just a few things I wanted to try this time around. I have cut the crush panels off and will paint them seperately, I will remove the front part of the chassis and do my own, I have drilled out the fuel filler and put metal tube in to make my own version and just checked that the front and rear clips have no gaps so far.

Thanks for setting me straight Shayne. You have my permission to call me "Tory" if you wish. Old age is a curse but I'll go out fighting it to the end. Keep those NASCARS coming mate.

Re: AJ Foyt's 1989 Dayton 500 OLDS'
I have been getting a little more done, nothing too exciting but the part i think most of us hate, the chassis. I did a quick test with the primer to make sure i was happy with the firewall section meeting the chassis, i wanted to get a nice smooth finish. I have now started adding the rest of the cage sections. The body i am quite pleased with as the front and rear clips have blended in well. I will use the white for the orange to go over and then i will do a mist coat of flat black prior to doing the gloss black.

I have made some progress over the Easter break so far. I wanted to try to go a notch up from previous builds so I had a crack at doing a little more work to the front chassis area. Using styrene rod I had added all the new bars forward of the yellow kit chassis. It still needs to be cleaned up and sand down the edges etc, but please any comments/tips I am happy to hear them.
I have also cut down the fan shroud and everything fits neatly under the body.

Re: AJ Foyt's 1989 Dayton 500 OLDS'
Tiny update with all the work travel along with working on the house. I have managed to get the chassis painted. I used Testors Competition Orange which looks great so far, i shall give it a shot of clear during the week or next weekend. The only concern i have is that it seems a touch darker than the decal orange but seeing the orange sections will go over black this may bring it all to look the same. I primed the yellow plastic with Tamiya white primer and this has stopped any bleed through which is great.
I have also managed to get the engine painted along with most of the running gear so i hope to have a better update soon.

Looking good. The extra work on the front pays off, just looks better.

Re: AJ Foyt's 1989 Dayton 500 OLDS'
I have managed to finally get some 2K on the chassis and also got around to painting the body. With the cold weather here now it is hard to get a shine out of the paint as you can see by the black. I will rub it back a little then decal and cover it all with 2K.

Looking good Shayne. I am in awe of your ability to keep that tubular structure in alignment. The paint looks OK in the pics.

Re: AJ Foyt's 1989 Dayton 500 OLDS'
I have started on the decals now and i have never used Powerslide before, it was so nice to use a decal sheet that lays down so well. I was quite worried about the gold sections as previous experience has always been bad with breaks and shattering, these ones were perfect.
I have also started some work on the chassis.

Brilliant Shayne - those decals really set the finish off. Will you be super-detailing this one or leave it (almost) box stock?

Thanks Terry, no super detail just some wires on the engine and some interior details.

Nice work, it's a colour scheme that grabs your attention.
