Land Rover 109" LWB Camel Trophy
Gday,
This is a Land Rover 109'' lwb from Italeri (can anyone please tell me
is it series 2 or 3?). I got lucky to find this kit because I always
wanted to have a camel trophy theme among my completed models. The
model was sprayed with tamiya camel yellow and I made the decals
myself, but the rest of them is oob.
Let me know what you think and thanks for looking.
Regards

Re: Land Rover 109" LWB Camel Trophy
Nice work.
A very quick look at Wiki showed series I & II with headlights next to the grille rather than on the front of the wings.
So, series III?

You have a way with OOB models - its very clean and well detailed.
I'm certain it's a Series III judging from the grille treatment.

Re: Land Rover 109" LWB Camel Trophy
I'm not sure , may be a bit later than series III with the trims around the headlights (wow , rivets to count )but not sure , we only had a series 1 and just looked at the others .
Nice clean build yet again , well done . I was only thinking of he Camel Trophy cars a week or so ago after a group of SWB landrovers went through town with signs all over them . Can't remember the name of the Trek on them though .

Re: Land Rover 109" LWB Camel Trophy
Definitely a series 3 Land-Rover, the late series 2a models did have the lights on the wings but they also had a metal radiator grill, triangle-like door hinges and a plain metal dash (no plastic). Series 3 has the plastic dash, square door hinges and a plastic radiator grille (the plastic grille proved unpopular with Australians because you could not BBQ with them). Just picked up this particular Italeri model (thanks Shoey) so that i could attempt a replica of my old girl.
Nice job overall,

Re: Land Rover 109" LWB Camel Trophy
I'll leave myself open here, but what's the Camel Cup? Like the Melbourne Cup but on Camels?

Close but no cigar. Originally using a few Jeeps for the first year (1980), and then different Land-rover models for the next 18 years, the Camel Trophy was a rally held on many different soils across the world. The rally ceased in 2000 which was the first year since 1981 to stray from the Land-rover brand going to the Ribtec 655?. Generally speaking all the vehicles were the same base model with the same modifications including winches and long range fuel tanks. This left the results to the competitors abilities.
