69 shelby pro mod re-build
YESSS!!!! Finally got the stupid photos to upload without photobucket
Well anyway I wasnt happy with the botched paint job on my shelby so I sanded it back, tossed the chassis(also crap) and scratch built a tube chassis I only kept the body, hood, wheels and diff.
Heres what ive got so far;
Ive also scratched up some shocks from .80 rod and some blue wire:
Engine so far:(will add spark plug wires, headers and belts and pulleys )
I need some ideas on a paint scheme guys, couldnt figure one out
Any ideas and creative critisism are welcome

Re: 69 shelby pro mod re-build
cage is looking great dude keep it up ! Spray it with some easy off oven cleaner to remove the rest of the stubborn paint, its much easier on the body than sanding.Just use it outside its pretty nasty. Colour/s depends on what you have and/or what you like. Give us some ideas and we can go from there
Re: 69 shelby pro mod re-build
Thanks for the tip DSF I will try it Can you get it from Coles or Safeway?
As far as colours go, I like greens, orange, and plumb crazy purple but im looking to go wild all guns blazing on this paint job So anything wild, crazy or just plain different will be taken on board

Maybe you should ask Zenrat then he likes those colours too altogether even . It'll take me a couple of days to get something together if you want to wait that long

You do pretty good work for a kid!
Good news is all your favourite colours will work great together, so use em all and go wild.

Re: 69 shelby pro mod re-build
Great job on the cage dude. I agree with DSF, need to strip the body completely now, try the oven cleaner or another good one is causic soda, you can buy it at the supermarket. Get a container that the body will fit a nd be submerged, put a couple of tablespoons off caustic soda in after you have filled container with water, be careful, it will get hot, the more caustic you put in the hotter it will get. To be on the safe side wait till it cools down a bit then put the body in it, once all the flesh has come off the bones...oh shit wrong story, ummmmm what I meant to say was leave it for a day or so and check it, if the paint is coming off, give it a bit of a scrub, if it's still not loose put it back for a while longer, you will work out if it's working. If you get it on you, it will burn you, wash it of in water. Once all the paint is off just give it a was in soapy water and you're done. HTH
Ohyeah, what's the go with the big block Chev rocker covers on the Ford donk?

Re: 69 shelby pro mod re-build
Thanks guys
Kirk; Can I just put primer over the top of what I have now or will that not work? I will probobly just get the easy off, sounds a bit safer
I dont know why I put chevy valve covers on it, thought they looked the part though The cobra jet valve covers just looked too small
Should I go all out on the engine with scratching up stuff? I think I will, make it as detailed as possible
More to come soon, stay tuned!

Re: 69 shelby pro mod re-build
Caustic soda and oven cleaner are about as nasty as each other. Try one, if that doesn't work try the other. I'd strip it cause it looks like you have a few layers there and it will be hard to get it smooth, you will more than likely find it will reapear after you have sprayed your colour on, just trying to save you some hassle.

Re: 69 shelby pro mod re-build
Hey Brayden,
It's good to finally see some of your work and what alot of work you have in front of you!
Candy over red, green and purple, I think it would look dark but I have know idea really. I use an ice cream lid when I'm trying to figure out colours. You can mask off different colour strips to see what they look like next to each other plus you can spray clear colours over top to see the differences betweent the base colours.

Re: 69 shelby pro mod re-build
Hi Brayden, I'm with Joe on this one, the clear red will darken up the colours too much, you'll still see a difference but it may not be the right effect for a race car, where you want the diferent colours to stand out or even clash with each other.

Re: 69 shelby pro mod re-build
Don't forget to wear rubber gloves etc, when messin with the oven cleaner. An old toothbrush will also help, just be sure you don't put it back in the bathroom afterwards or you'll be hearin' someone scream in the mornning

Re: 69 shelby pro mod re-build
Thanks for the tips Carps I will take them on board Not sure im too keen on using oven cleaner though, sounds a bit deadly Last time I checked, metho got the tamiya acrylics off so I will try that first Joe and myself have been talking and were going with a fade paint job Hey guys it could be a 'Fade to black'!
Ok anyway Ive put together a mini tutorial on 4-links and this is PART:1;
You need some .80 evergreen or plastruct round tubing, the smaller the size the better. Take out your hobby drill and drill a hole through the top of the tubing with a 0.50-0.70 mm drill bit.
Once you are satisfied with your hole cut the peice of tubing off so you have a small section of tubing with two holes. You will need eight of these.
Next you need to cut 4, 2cm lengths of wire. Make sure your wire is not to flimsy and will fit through the hole we drilled in the tubing. once you have done this you will need to attach the peices of tubing, one either end to all four peices of wire.
You will need to make some brackets next, I must stress that you do your research and find out what 4-link brackets suit your application.
Next you will need a 1.8cm long peice of rectangular rod/strip. You will need to drill two holes to house the coil overs. In my case I measured 4 mm in from each side but you may want to pu your holes in a diferent spot. Again you will need 2, 2cm lengths of wire and they need to be attatched firmly through the holes. Once you have done this it should look something like the last picture.
Enjoy, more to come soon

Re: 69 shelby pro mod re-build
Good work on the suspension Brayden looks good man. Right heres a couple of quickies on ms paint not stellar but you get the idea. Pics are Jarius Watson's. First up black vents and rockers with purple flames with candy red over everything but the rockers.2nd lime green with purple fading to black boss stripes.
3rd up lime flames with orange frontal and lower orange flames the rest of the car purple fading to black. and 4thpurple top black botom with green zigzaggy stripe with orange pinstriping in the middle. Its not as bad as it sounds
Personally although I like them all 4 and 2 are my favs and may just end up on one of mine along the way. That said feel free to use if you want thats why I did them

Re: 69 shelby pro mod re-build
Thanks Bones and yeah I think I need to strip it, I dont want the paint to bleed I will strip it next week some time.
Thanks DSF, I like the 4th one the best I will keep that in mind mate! Joe is going to teach me how to fade so I think I might do that but I can see another '69 in the works
What do you guys think I should do as far as a hood scoop? Snorkle? Cowl induction? I'm not sure what to do
More to come soon fellas
