Petty 71 GTX
Revell 71 GTX kit mated to a Monogram Thunderbird NASCAR.
CHASSIS.
GTX chassis has NASCAR front hoop, firewall, fuel tank, cage and dash.Trans tunnel is a peice of coke can cut and rolled to shape. Rear firewall is sheet styrene.
BODY.
Hood has been "flattened" to get rid of the air grabber scoop, all chrome trim removed and fuel filler and overflow holes drilled.
I realised the hood was wrong for this car, so I had to remove the raised section in the middle with the air grabber and make it flat. Just some sheet styrene cut to shape, glued in the opening and puttied up. It still retains the raised lip on either side, but now the middle section is low instead of high. Apparently this helped with aerodynamics.
here is the filled and primered hood
More to come later.

Nice work, looks like a bought one! I'd assume they were joking about aerodynamics with these barges....

No. They "discovered" them in the late 60's hence the Charger 500, Spoiler/Talledega & Daytona/Superbird.
