Hey Bryce, that pickemup is looking better every day.
Maybe this is a good time to post the pics I shot on Dave's birthday.
Here he is attaching his birthday gift to the back of his newly finished roadster pickemup..
Looks almost complete now, just needs a few more lines.
He tells me it was the best fun he ever had driving up the Hume to Bright.
Truck looks much better without the Koolkits signs on the doors and when he gets back, there'sI get to draw more twisted lines on it.

Pretty 'lil truck,Carps.I recall earlier pics of you putting curly lines on it. Please post pics after you're finished with it. Looks like a lot of planning went into it before building.Beautifully executed as well. I hope it's going to be a driver and not a trailer queen. It's too pretty to sit still in a barn. Best to you both.Bill

Re: '29 RPU
Don't worry Bill, the plates were on it for five minutes before it had sufficient road rash to warrant a pair of new headlamps.
Then two days later it headed of for the 380km road trip to Bright.
I caught up with Dave at the event a couple of days later and he was still pickin the bugs from his teeth, and still grinnin like a cheshire cat, despite being caught by everything ol' Ma Nature could think of chuckin' his way for his maiden voyage.
Got home safe and the car didn't miss a beat.
I'm thinkin it's gunna be a struggle to finish the stripin' coz I aint learned yet how to get the paint on a moving target.

Sorry to hijack your Thread bryce, but hey, you've got so many on the table you need a diversion anyhow....
FWIW, here's what Dave's pick-up looked like three or four years ago.

Holy crap. It takes a real man and a mighty imagination to see the beauty in that hulk. Cheers to Dave for having a huge pair of brass ones. Just makes it all the more impressive. BTW,on my business cards I had written'If it ain't movin' I'll paint it'. It was my only real rule and I found it to be very helpful,LOL. Would be even tougher for you, carps.'Specially on your little caster seats' wheels and your butt. Picture yourself chained to a bumper, cruisin' about 50 whilst laying down lil'curly lines and yelling your arse off. Thanks much for the before pics and congratulations for a beautiful car,Dave. Best,to you both.Bill

Re: '29 RPU
What is it with this build thread going off topic!
Did you give him some number plates for his birthday Carps?
I think his rear axle might be a bit too wide...or is that to spread the load?
And is his front axle far enough forward? Looks a bit strange to me. I reckon his headlights sit a bit high too.
You driving a muscle car these days Carps?
I'd be curious to know how much of that rusty wreck actually got used on the finished build?

Geez you guys are a tough crowd! We're still on model A pick-ups and Dave was going to paint his orange.Bryce wrote:What is it with this build thread going off topic!
Nope, Vicroads did.Bryce wrote:Did you give him some number plates for his birthday Carps?

It's perfect, any narrower and the hub carriers would hit the chassis. The tyres fit perfectly under the fenders which again confirms it being just right.
They are as far forward as the model A chassis allows, any more and the chassis would need to be extended. The downide of using independent suspension in one of these early chassis.. With a beam axle the crossmember can be relocated to better centre the wheels. The other alternative is to use '30/'31 front fenders which are more like '32s and don't hug the tyres so tightly as do the early ones.Bryce wrote:And is his front axle far enough forward? They've already beenn changed for small king bee Hot Rod headlamps.Bryce wrote:I reckon his headlights sit a bit high too.
Yup, but to discuss that would be to depart from the model A roadster pick-up topic.Bryce wrote:You driving a muscle car these days Carps?
Enough that it is legally recognised as an original body on an original frame (with matching numbers too), which makes full reg much easier when the time comes for Dave to do so.Bryce wrote:I'd be curious to know how much of that rusty wreck actually got used on the finished build?

Bryce, your pickup is coming along nicely, although I noticed in your other thread it has different wheels?
The black pickup is absolutely magic.

Re: '29 RPU
Still plugging away trying to get this finished before the end of the year. Am struggling to decide on wheels though - I had planned to go with a set of polished/chrome Halibrands, but I quite like the look of the natural magnesium finish too. However that tends to clash with my sand interior which I would need to repaint black. What do you guys think?

Re: '29 RPU
The magnesium wheel look cool but I think I would go with the polished rims & leave the interior as is.
Bloody tough choice!

Chrome, I think it suits the car more.
The magnesium ones would look better on one that is more ratty.

Re: '29 RPU
Thanks for the feedback guys. Chrome won out in the end. I always wanted more of a street rod look for this, so I stayed with the shiny stuff. I’ll use the natural magnesium versions on my ’34 Hiboy instead.
Engine and chassis are all finished up:
Pretty happy with how the engine has come up. It’s the small block from an AMT ’34 dressed up with some Z28 valve covers, a big Holley and a chrome air cleaner from the latest Revell ’57 Chevy:
Also added the kit decal to the floorboards and gave the interior a bit of a wash and some flocking on the floor:
Out the back I used the kit rolled pan and added some frenched Revell deuce taillights and a plate from my spares.
Hoping to get this one wrapped up next week to be the first of 2011!
