1966 Mustang
Hi guys
Thought I would post another one in here while I try and stop myself from starting anything new until the ones on my desk are finished.
This is the AMT 1966 Mustang kit. I actually finished this a couple of years ago as a present for my old man as this is his dream set of wheels but there were a whole number of things I was never happy with, like the paint job, the engine colour and engine bay, the chassis, the interior, pretty much the whole thing so I decided to build him a new one. I am going for the factory look with this one.
It will be pretty much box stock except for the white walls from the parts box and the wheels which are from the 67 Mustang kit detailed with Tamiya Metallic Grey XF-56. The only other addition will be the photoetch set of badges, door locks and wipers that I found on ebay hence all the badges being sanded away. This will be my first time photo etching (if thats the term) so wish me luck. It can't be that hard could it?
The paint will be Tamiya Italian Red TS-8. All the chrome work will be BMF. The body has been in primer for a while now and needs a little sanding in some rough spots you may notice in the pics before I spray the body. The chassis is flat black and the exhausts are sprayed in Tamiya Metallic Silver over a gloss black base. This was a killer to do as anyone who has built this kit knows the exhaust is moulded into the chassis and it took me a good 2 nights to mask. I give it about a 8 out of 10 but its good enough as the paint is expensive and I am not keen on re doing it. The rear has been lowered considerably to get that tough cruiser look. Nothing like a muscle car or classic on its arse in my book. This was an easy job as all you need to do is drill some new wheels for the metal axle.
This is the body and chassis as they are at the moment.
The interior is brush painted flat black, the woodgrain is a mix of light and dark browns and the chrome work is done in silver. I haven't tried BMFing interior parts yet. One day.
Engine is box stock painted Model Master Ford Engine Blue and the transmission is silver. The 289 decal on the air filter is from the Revell 65 Mustang Convertible to get that factory look. I drilled the kit distributor as the pre drilled resin ones I have are too big as I want to wire and plumb this one maybe.
The following pic is a test fit. Sitting just the way I like it. I can't wait to finish it. Everything has gone together great on this one so far and it did last time too.
Its fun building something straight out of the box sometimes, makes life so much easier.
I hope you like it so far.
Here are some pics of the old build.

Re: 1966 Mustang
Cheers guys.
Chris, I flocked the 300C I am building and I should do this one too but I am getting too keen to get some builds finished so I'm skipping the details.
I am off to the GC for a week tomorrow so hopefully I come back relaxed enough to finish my builds in progress properly and seeing the builds on here are good motivation too.

Re: 1966 Mustang
Hey fellas
I got some paint on this one over the last couple of weeks and started with the photo etch details today. Just need to finish the mustang lettering in the etch on the front quarters, which should be fun as each letter is separate, and BMF and clear and put it all together, so hopefully not too far away from finishing this one.
I hope you like it so far and let me know what you think.
Cheers
AJ
