'57 Tank
Was supposed to get cracking on the '68 Charger kit but somehow this one found it's way to the bench.
Never built anything even close to military before, or in the 1:72 scale. Weathering is also new to me but I'll give it a go.
Here's a pic to show the scale comparison,
Sprayed mist coats of flat black and grey over the chassis? And flat black, dull red on the tracks with some silver dry brushing.
Used rust and soot powder to give it all a used look,
Next is to get the body mounted.
Thanks for looking
Joe.

Re: '57 Tank
I'm assuming this will be an off-road vehicle?
Now I've seen everything! Hope it's finished soon.

Re: '57 Tank
No-one will be surprised to know I love this idea.
Oddly I have been scheming up something similar for Mrs z who has requested a "xmas model" for next years mantlepiece. I am planning a combination of Paddy Wagon & Bren-Gun Carrier...

Re: '57 Tank
Thanks guys, glad you all like the build so far. Cheers
This has been done before in the 1:1 world, well sort of. In the early 90's where was the short lived "Monster Tanks". Bob Chandler the creator of BigFoot made this first one called "BigFoot Fastrax". It's a, M48 personnel carrier chassis with two Ford 460ci engines and C6 automatic transmissions. Producing 1000hp. The body is the upper half of a fiberglass replica of a 1990 Aerostar.
Mine wont be as tuff as these but I'll give it a good go.

Re: '57 Tank
To get body to sit on the chassis, I made this top cover with a slot for the driver and one for the motor.
I also cut the bottom half off the body, now it sits better on the tracks.
Next was to hinge the body. I made the hinge swing from both the body and chassis just so I could have more of a lift.
Next was to make the cockpit and test fit the dash.
The dash is made from sheet styrene and I added some fibre optics for the toggle switches. It's not perfect but will do.
Thanks for looking

Re: '57 Tank
mate that is awsome i saw something like that in the eighties here in whyalla, the monster truck circus came to town and they had something that resembled a steam train mated to a tank bottom, painted bright pink driven by a lady, she went like the clappers as well, anyway cant wait to see the finished product regards harley fan

Re: '57 Tank
That would've been cool to see back then. I tried searching for train on tank chassis but all I got was images of Thomas the Tank Engine.
I'm a sick man hey? Well thanks for the compliment Fred did say he had something simular on the bench.
What class will it be in, I reckon it might upset some of the military boys so I better just keep it with the other 57's. Would'nt want to ruffle any feathers

Looking good. A 1:1 of this would be just the thing for traversing some the flood ravaged zones...
