Orange Whip – ’29 RPU
First completion for 2011 although most of the work was done in 2010, just couldn’t quite button it up before the end of the year. This is the fourth Model A I have built in the last twelve months and could be the last for a while as I am sick of foiling windscreen surrounds!
This is the Revell ‘rat rod’ kit that I have ‘un-ratted’ with a set of big ‘n’ little Halibrands from a Revell deuce roadster, a small block Chev from an AMT ’34 Ford and some scratchbuilt tuck-n’ roll door trims that I made from an AMT ’59 El Camino bed cover. The chassis has been Z’d out back to get it low and the front runs a dropped I-beam from the ZZ Top coupe. Both are running split bones.
I am not a fan of chrome headlight lenses, so I found some clear ones in my parts box and drilled out the chrome bezels to make them fit. Also made a dropped headlight bar from wire to hold them - pretty happy with the result. Out back is the kit rolled pan with some frenched taillights from a Revell deuce roadster. Oh and the bed has been shortened to give nicer proportions.
I had a really hard time getting the hood and hood sides to fit, so not sure if I will leave them on the finished build. As you can see, this one has a few different looks that I can choose from:
Also wasn’t planning to use the up-top, but tried it out and it’s kind of growing on me.

Re: Orange Whip – ’29 RPU
Superb build Bryce. I think I prefer without the hood and sides, and it does look cool with the top up as well.
If my 32 turns out half as well I'll be happy. Great job.

A nice and juicy orange. The chrome wheels seem to add extra brightness. I also think you should leave the hood sides off as it would be a shame to hide that nice engine.

Re: Orange Whip – ’29 RPU
Too cool. Everything works well together. I am with most of the guys and reckon the hood sides should be left off. The roof surprisingly looks awesome but it looks just as good without it. I guess its all personal choice and it would look good however yoyu decide to display it. Good job

Re: Orange Whip – ’29 RPU
Beautiful build! I think it looks better without the hood - nice to see all that lovely engine detail and give it a rod appearance. A few pinstripes wouldn't go astray maybe?
