Robby Gordon's Spiderman Monte Carlo
I have wanted to do this car for a long time, i am not a big fan of Robby's but this car looks so good. Mr Nascar did the decals and he used Ford Grabber Blue, i was thinking of giving Tamiya TS-44 Bright Blue a go with this one. The front of the rear spoiler is red which i think Tamiya X-7 Red looks close to the decals.
I have got the chassis together and gave it a light dust to pick any areas needing more sanding which i have started. I have also done the dash and added the Earnhardt bar. The hood has the sink marks out but i am now thinking of adding the hood pins and also the hinges so i will most likley have to paint it again.
I am not sure i want to try doing the nose alterations i shall see before i paint it.
Well i have now got the body in colour. The blue is TS-44 Bright Blue and i used the TS-49 Bright Red for the spoiler, both sprayed over grey primer. I still need to clean up around the windows and a couple of spots where it bleed through the tape. Then i will fog in the black on the side skirt areas, decal and clear. Next is the chassis painting.
Well the decalling process has started. These still need to be trimmed etc so disregard the cuts etc. Going Ok at present, i have a couple of small splits in the roof decal around the rails but i will either touch up with paint or some extra decal.
Decals are all done on the body. I shall let it sit for a couple of days then i shall wash it down and hope to get some clear onto it over the weekend.
With this now done, i shall get to work on the chassis and engine.
Still slow going so far i have just started looking at adding a Kool box just testing for placement, ignition boxes which i will wire up and a newer style seat to suit Mr Gordon. Dash with Earnhardt bar added and soon to be painted.

Looking good Shayne - and what a top colour scheme. If only some of our local V8 racers could be so spectacular visually. The decals look to be of good quality - how about the coverage? Any bleedthrough? Difficult to tell from photos.

Decals are ALPS and were great to use. They supplied extra numbersso they look fine. With Spidey he came out well as all the colours are nice and crisp.
I hope once i can get this new garden done i can spend some more time spraying etc and more finished.....lol
Re: Robby Gordon's Spiderman Monte Carlo
Looks great Shayne - nice work so far. What are you using for roll bar padding? It looks really good.
I have some technical questions - what's an Earnhardt bar and what's a kool box?

Bryce to answer your questions, the Earnhardt Bar is the bar that runs from the front firewall (in my model the dash) and is going to the top roll bar in the cage, this was introduced to keep the drivers area safer in a roll over crash. Dale Earnhardt started using it and so it got call that after him.
The Kool Box is used to keep the driver cool, it takes air from the side window ducting and goes into the air box is cooled and it is then plugged into the drivers helmet via a hose.
Thanks for the comments guys.
Re: Robby Gordon's Spiderman Monte Carlo
Well seeing the weather has warmed up here now it is much easier to do some painting. I wanted to cover this in 2K as i used TS13 on it originally and it sort of melted the Tamiya Semi Gloss Black i had used for the lower portion of the body. I touched this up with some out of the bottle and then sprayed over it, the masking qualities of 2K over mistakes etc is excellent. I had already put the grill decals etc on and really did not want them too glossy looking so i might cover with some dullcote later.
I have also started some wiring in the interior, not too much just wanted to add some extra details.
And last bit for this time around, just been playing with the exhaust and trying to give it a slightly used look.

Bear the seat is from a 2004 Monte Carlo kit, the Ambrose decals are avialable from a guy by the name Thad see the link: http://public.fotki.com/Tbrooks/decals/2008-59-stp.html
Had to push this guy hard to get these made, but it was worth the wait, they look great and are the best looking ALPS decals i have ever had.

Money isn't the prime motivator for a race driver.Bear wrote:Oh well, gotta go where the money
Going with whatever/whoever has the best chance of winning usually comes first.
A driver who wants money first and win second, is not worth a cracker to any race team.

I would say they are trying to secure their team, being a 1 car team they needed to have some strength to challenge the bigger teams. MWR has not had a good year but Toyota must think highly of them to continue with funding. From Marcos point i would say it has to be a positive to be lined up with a 3 car team plus have a manufacturer like Toyota supporting them.
I also like that Toyota is in Cup and listening to the Yanks whinge about them, i would like to see them come into V8's seeing there are cut backs i would rather have 10 cars with a chance to win than say 4-6.
Re: Robby Gordon's Spiderman Monte Carlo
No probs, didn't realise, and yes i agree with both of you. I would like to see Toyota and maybe some others come into the V8's too,it can only strengthen the category,my

Re: Robby Gordon's Spiderman Monte Carlo
I have been trying to get this one finished up. Added a fire bottle to the interior and started running the line for that. Installed the headers and engine & i have almost finied up the rear end, & of course the tyres which still need more details added before i dull coat them.

Re: Robby Gordon's Spiderman Monte Carlo
Last update before this is completed. I have installed the dash with the Earnhardt bar which i will now glue into place. Seat is in place & belts are in and just need decals added to them. So it is almost ready after a long drawn out build which i will be glad to see the end of.

I know that feeling...My wife reminds me that I say the same thing every time I am close to finished. Seems I feel that way about every project when it is getting close to being wrapped up. Then within a few months I forget all the hardship and just admire the model on the shelf and think about starting another project!
Those gauges look great - how'd you do them?

The gauges are form a Slixx bits sheet, it covers headlights, grills etc.
Re: Robby Gordon's Spiderman Monte Carlo
Well some progress in between getting the garden & house puppy proof.
I have put the Earnhardt bar in place now, this did not come standard in the kits till the 2004 models so to be accurate you have to add it yourself. I also added a small piece of foam that sits between the screen and the bar.
And i have now finally had a chance to put the dullcoat on the tyres and they are now mounted to their rims. It is so close to being finished now.
