Wingless Srint car,
Hi Fellas,
I don't post here very often, mainly becaused I don't build many cars, but at the moment I'm building a wingless sprint car. It's a commission build for a friend at work, it's a surprise for her husband's 40th next month, who owns & drives the real deal. She supplied the kit, which had been in the cupboard for years and told me it deosn't have to be an exact replica, just close enough, but I'll try my best.
The kit is a V8 but the real one is a V6, and the kit has some different panels. The kit has no bonnet scoop, but it does have the right wheels, so here's how it's coming along.
The real deal
The kit

Re: Wingless Srint car,
Nice to see something from you other than cammo stuff, looking good mate. Is it a V6 Chev or Buick, if it's a chev just cut the rear 2 cylinders off, if it's a Buick, I'm sure someone may have one, that is unless she is happy with the 8. Just

Re: Wingless Srint car,
Is it a what or a what? I don't know what engine it is Tubman. I'm only going off the photos too, I haven't layed eyes on the real thing. Nah it doesn't matter she said, so it's staying as is. Hardly able to see the engine when all together anyway except fot the pipes.

Re: Wingless Srint car,
Haha, you crack me up Beno. From the pipe pattern it looks like a chev but if it don't matter it don't matter.

Re: Wingless Srint car,
Cripes I thought it was the real car in those pics. That's how good it looks. Hope your friend's husband is suitably impressed.

Re: Wingless Srint car,
Thanks for the comments guys, You like the scoop? It's made partly from a 1/144 scale C-17 Globemaster's engine intake, & plastic card under the putty. Trying to get the the silver and black paint on the panels soon, done the fuel tank this afternoon.

Update on the sprint car
Here's a small update on where it's up to.
Fuel tank painted, wheels almost painted, in the process of getting the goodyear off the walls and painting Hoosier on them, The main body of the car is masked and sprayed with the blue, siver and black. Just have to do the yellow flash on the sides and those tiny little checkers. (Crap photos off the Iphone) post more shots off the real camera when I start to unmask it.

Re: Wingless Srint car,
that is a chevy in the kit mate, the sprintcar kits have small block chevy motors in them, the 1-1 car would run a v6 holden motor, that is the only motor allowed to be used in that class, build is looking good, if you want some hoosier decals for the tyres look at Patto's Place mate under the speedway column, if you want decals for the car i would contact HQR on facebook, top quality decals made of aussie sprintcars, the bloke is a very busy but loves wingless sprints, am sure he will work out something with you if you contact himTubman wrote:Haha, you crack me up Beno. Re: Wingless Srint car,
I know it's a Chev in the kit but wasn't sure what the 1:1 was, exhaust pattern is same as Chev so naturally thought it was a Chev. Last time I saw Sprintcars live they only had V8's but that was a few (a lot of) years ago.

Re: Wingless Srint car,
Thanks for the decals info Harley Fan, but I'm running a little late with the project, I've only got 2 weeks left to finish & deliver it. If I had of been on the pulse a bit earlier, I certainly would have looked into getting some custom decals happening.
Just finished painting the Hoosier on the tyres tonight, yellow pointy bit painted, checkers tomorrow. Then hopefully some help with the numbers, from my old mate Shoey. I can almost see the end. Then back to military, coz I hate doing shiny paint , airbrushing camo is so much easier.

Re: Wingless Srint car,
Ok so here's what I got done today, checkers painted, and unmasked the rest of the paint job. I have a few places to touch up but I'm fairly happy with it. The wheels are just sitting there, not glued yet, and I have more chrome to add. Getting close now.
Thanks for looking,
Beno.

Re: Wingless Srint car,
Thanks, I just used some fly screen mesh left over from my back screen door on the kitchen. I sat there & cut out all the crisscross sections that I didn't want. Took me about 15min just to do the 2cm X 3cm section that needed, then cut it to shape & super glued it in.
