Paul's now deceased FJ Holden sedan
This is to be a model of Paul's (my potential future brother in law ???) that his sister wants to give him for christmas . These are photo's of it in the late 80's/early 90's quickly taken on my phone his wife showed me while he was at work ,
The light blue van was also Pauls , it's since been sold ,
And this was it's last drive after Paul's brother crashed it
and the shell I'm starting with , in a heavy coat of primer so I can start to sand out some little blemishes .
Now , question time , does anyone have any idea of a suitable match to the two shades of green FJ's had ?

Re: Paul's now deceased FJ Holden sedan
i did one of these, to get those colors i took a pic that was in a magazine to an auto paint supplier he matched color chips to the pic and mixed touch up bottles for me, unfortunately the remaining paint dried in the bottles and was thrown out so i dont have the codes, its here if u want to take a look https://ozautobuilders.forumotion.com/t271-fj-holden?highlight=FJ+Holden

Thanks carps , that would be brilliant
I've already looked at your's many times dv8v8 actually , your's was the example I used to show that it was possible to build a replica of Pauls fj . Stunning work by the way .

Re: Paul's now deceased FJ Holden sedan
The big issue with that body is the wheelarches are totally the wrong shape and need some serious work to get them right. The rest is pretty good all things considered.

Re: Paul's now deceased FJ Holden sedan
Not much of an update but I have some colour on the FJ now , only first coat and it's too dark compared to the original so next coats will be lighter till I get it right It looks much lighter in person though than it does in these photos .

Looking good mate
Shame what happened to it though
Just wondering, what scale is it? doesn't look 1/24th in the last shot.

1/25 scale is the size of the one i built, and it looks like the same one. that last shot it looks like he painted it in the middle of the street!Adam Clark wrote:Just wondering, what scale is it? doesn't look 1/24th in the last shot.
Re: Paul's now deceased FJ Holden sedan
Yes , it's somewhere in the 1:24/1:25 region , kerbside and all resin .aussie muscle wrote:1/25 scale is the size of the one i built, and it looks like the same one. that last shot it looks like he painted it in the middle of the street!Adam Clark wrote:Just wondering, what scale is it? doesn't look 1/24th in the last shot.
What , doesn't everyone have a silent policeman in their driveway ??? Waiting for some special bolts that are like mag wheel lock nuts to fix it there as the mini's are there and they won't drive over it so it's an extra obstacle for security Plus I had to have one since so many mini sumps died because of them ...

This is looking great so far. Love the old FJ's - some day I hope to build mine as a Redex trial car from the fifties round Australia era. Hurry up retirement!

Re: Paul's now deceased FJ Holden sedan
I've got a second resin kit as well Tezza , just wondering how to build it next . Was thinking of a 60's era race car to put on the track with a mini or two (yes , predictable I know ...) but come to think of it a redex car sounds good too . Too many ideas , not enough time ...

Re: Paul's now deceased FJ Holden sedan
Well teh weather gods have shined on me briefly (in between heavy rain , humid weather and storms) so now have the FJ painted and waiting for it to cure before clear coating it to try and bring the chrome out a bit more
Still got to cut the glass out of some clear styrene , print the numberplates and finish painting the underside then assemble .

Well , it's done , definitely not happy with the clear on it as it's given it a yellowish tint but then I put it on a little thick too Taking it around to give to Paul in the morning , hope he likes it .

If he wasn't you would have had to threaten him with the Plastic Mafia and their spoons. Glad to hear he appreciated your work and thought.
