70 1/2 Camaro Z28
Here is my 70 1/2 Z28. Everyone has been at me to get rid of those rusty wrecks in the yard, so now I have heaps of room to wash my Camaro!! still waiting for my personalised plates to arrive. Painted in Tamiya light gun metal grey with a clear yellow top coat. so much for yellow....looks green to me!! the rims are out of the AMT Pontiac GTO (Monaro) I also used the inner rim from the Revell 69 Corvette coupe (Californian wheels) to make the original rim a lot wider. hinging the bonnet and boot was not an easy job, normaly they are mounted to the body, but in this case inside the dash and under the parcel shelf was the best could do.
I forgot engine and under body pics. stay tuned

Re: 70 1/2 Camaro Z28
Yellow over grey will always make green, unless the yellow is like me, very thick. Or should that be opaque?
Looks pretty good anyhow, and a unique hue.

A top model of a car that always seems to live in the Mustang's shadow, yet was every inch a true muscle car of equal performance. Great paint job and very real looking, which is your trademark Shoey.

Any chance of a tutorial or some pics on how you did this? I really like the wider back wheel. One of the things that always s#$ts me with kit wheels - they never seem to have the right offset...

Re: 70 1/2 Camaro Z28
Thanks guys for your comments. To get a wider offset wheel is very simple. by placing the inner rim on the front side of the wheel as shown. these inner rims as pictured are the rear from the Revell 69 vette, they are much wider. I used the fronts from this kit for the rear on my Camaro, they were just right.
Re: 70 1/2 Camaro Z28
Here are some pics of the engine and chassis. this kit was minutes away from being a curbsider. I lost all interest. I think its because it is not an Aussie.
I think I'd rather leave the bonnet closed. its not real good.
I might pull the engine bay appart and re-do it one day.
I wasn't real happy with the decals on the bonnet,
they kinda wrinkled up a bit, I shoulda used paint instead. oh well!!

Sheer brilliance Shoey. This is the kind of inspired lateral thinking that I aspire to! Thanks for sharing.

I think NOT!! Looks pretty damn good from where I'm sitting. Are they machined pulleys in there?

I think they are detail masters. this is the first time I have ever used alloy pullies, its hard to go back to out of box stuff.
Just gotta get me some more!
I have learned so much from this forum, I thought I'd better give some back, Cheers.

Thanks for noticing Steve, you have good eyes and you know your bikes too.
these are IXO Museum 1/24 scale diecast, about 15 bucks each. their detail is pretty good
and they make good backdrops for dioramas. Cheers.
Re: 70 1/2 Camaro Z28
They do look good for 1/24. I found their website, but they don`t make my bike. But they do have what i hope my next bike will be, if i can get enough money together.

Well Steve, don't keep us in the dark, which bike is the one you hope to get one day? I noticed the bike too (surprising I know) but I didn't dare mention it....not cars you know. I owned a XS11 many years ago and I noticed in the collection another of my past bikes, the Norton 750 Commando fastback although mine was the bigger 850 and not a fast back.....so I guess it wasn't really my bike.....um.....guess I'll just slink quietly away.....mumble, mumble......

Re: 70 1/2 Camaro Z28
Pete, I want the GSX1400 Suzuki. It is the closest thing on the market today to my old Waterbottle, which i have had for 20 years now (which has just clicked over 400,000 kms).
It has plenty of leg room for rider and pillion, really torquey motor and no fairings too destroy if it falls of the side stand.

Re: 70 1/2 Camaro Z28
Nice build. Very nice build.
Looks yellow to me rather than green but then i've always had trouble judging the cusp betwixt those 2 colours.
Apart from being nearly twice the capacity and a 4 stroke.
I know what you mean though. Those big old 1400 suzi's look the mutts and the engines are grenade proof.
As far as dropping one goes I don't think i'd be able to get one back on it's wheels without popping my back out again.
I'll stick with my lil 900 Trumpy though and keep on looking for something small in boxes to play with.

Re: 70 1/2 Camaro Z28
900 triple, what a motor, what a sound. I have been hooked on triples since hearing a Laverda Jota at full noise with open megas in `83. We where imbibing some canned beverages on the Murry river about 10kms from Jingellic in N/E Vic. It was just on dusk, and this guy was absolutely pegged traveling along the highway on the Vic side of the river.
Is your bike a trident? I do have a soft spot for those, although i have never managed too snag a ride on one.

Re: 70 1/2 Camaro Z28
It's a Sprint steve. Or it was until I removed the fairing. Now, seeing as the Sprint was basically a new generation Trident with a fairing, I suppose it's a Trident?
3 is definately the "correct" number of cylinders for a bike.
And as for the sound...
Every time I remove the silencers for some reason I just have to start it up and rev it.
But then isn't that the 12th commandment (after "thou shalt not get caught")?
"Thou shalt rev thy engine when thou hast removed thy silencers"
And of course Moses had a bike with loud pipes, it says so in the bible. Something like "the sound of Moses Triumph was heard throughout the land"...
