Another bloody hot rod!
Life is a bit frantic at the moment, but I need to get another one built, so I figure something quick and easy, like a Revellogram snap kit.
Of course it can’t be built OOB so the new wheels are early Corvette, slicks from AMT parts pack and front runners from who knows what/where, with grille shell etc. from R&MOM.
I’m pretty sure the quick-change rear and A model spring are from the Partsbox.
Got a little table time on Sunday arvo and think I may be making some progress on this one.
Got the wheels detailed and some primer on the body, which still needs a bit more work and maybe a few special features added.
The suspension and stance is pretty much where I think it should be.
So it’s kinda evolved from a simple quickie to maybe something a little more but I think it should keep me motivated for the next bigger project. Perhaps another '50s era Kustom, or something from the '60s?

Nice one Carps. Love the smooth body sweep from the front wheels and under the doors to the rears - very cool. Looks like it might be right at home on the Salt Flats?

Re: Another bloody hot rod!
Great work Carps, they all seem to get out of control.
Good kit for a snap kit, accurate body on them.

Re: Another bloody hot rod!
I cut a lot of it away, especially up front.
The diff attaches directly to the floor (with a pin) and the spring sits in a slot cut into the floor, I'll have to make a few things to connect the two so it all looks like it actually works.
because the front axle sits neatly inside the nose piece, the hairpins now attach to the body.
The chassis is a little weak as there's not much meat left where the hairpins originally attached so I'll need to reinforce it there.
More pics on Sunday if I get any work done to it by then.

Re: Another bloody hot rod!
i imagined you have 'tweeked' it a little .. !
lookin' forward to the pix .. or a live inspection !!
what you doin' motor wise ? .. obviously cuttin' that lump of plactic out !
i was looking at it as a .. 'build it up as is' .. myself
but just can't let that happen .. it just wants more detailing .
just can't decide how much .. how far !
i don't think i can make it for the hamb .
it deserves not to be done right .

Re: Another bloody hot rod!
For me this one is about how it looks rather than what it's powered by, so the bonnet remains shut.
The voices in my head are discussing a number of paint schemes and I even found a few moments yesterday arvo to lay down a base coat, which promptly decided it wasn't going to play. My mistake I think, because I figured I needed to thin the little jar of Boyd's enamel like I would a can of automotive lacquer. I now figure that stuff is ready to spray straight out of the bottle.
As a result, I now have some work to do to remove the faulty enamel and resurface the plastic for the next try at applying the shiney stuff.

Re: Another bloody hot rod!
Well, I got home late this arvo and figured I should try again with squirting the colour on this thing.
Man I hate enamel, but I like the colour!
So I spray the first couple of coats and all is looking good.
Problem is as it dries the paint goes away from the shutlines and it looks like shote.
So, I take some full strenght paint on one of my best brushes and lay a thick coating along the shut lines.
Hopefully it'll dry OK and I can then sand it back a little but not too much that I'm back to square one, then spray some smooth coats over the top of it.
Meanwhile, to digress, here's a couple of pic for MGY125, this was our MG Car Club concours winning Y type.
I had another one that featured the drivetrain from an MGB, had a Torana diff and the MGB discs etc bolted up to the Y type front suspension. That was much more fun than this one which was 100% as per the factory, right down to the last detail including the jacking system.
The MG period also included an A.

Re: Another bloody hot rod!
Very nice little Y there. The modified one would have been fun, too. My Y Saloon has cut down rims (15's) and the front coils are a hi-compression cut down racing coil which drops the front a couple of inches and stiffens things out nicely for better cornering. The only motor mod is the exhaust system which has a performance muffler (supposedly less back pressure) with a larger diameter exhaust which gives that nice MG sound...though all is silent at the moment as we are rebuilding the motor.
