Late 80's Mercury
Bit late with this as i've almost finished it but better late than never I suppose.
I got a Revell '49 Merc when it first came out but could never work out how to build it (I just knew I didn't want to do another kustom sled).
Over the years I robbed many many parts from it and then a month or so ago inspiration struck. I was thinking about the chop and how it is always being criticised and how when people ask where did Revell copy it from fingers get pointed at the Merc in Cobra. That got me thinking of it as an 80's chop and from there the rest of the build congealed (like cold custard around a spoon).
I've put together what I think of as an 80's interior with racing seats and a black/silver scheme (silver vinyl upholstery - mmmmmmmmmm).
Engine is a 5.0 Ford from a Revell 32 (which fits like it was meant to be there - even the exhaust holes in the chassis line up). Wheels will be my second favourites after slot mags - Centreline Auto Drags and I have dropped it right down in the weeds using the stock front parts and a Revell 32 9" at the rear. It's meant to be bagged and sitting with the bags deflated and it's as low as I can go without modifying the inner guards.
I've done a bit of bodywork around the nose to incorporate a pair of grilles from my parts box but other than smoothing the peaks in the roof and bonnet thats it.
Paint is candy green over silver with (for once) the kit decals.
Now she needs a name.

.......... Thinking of something nice to say. Rods and what were apparently "kustoms" from the 80's, yuck. That interior is so freakin' 80's Paint looks good too.

Re: Late 80's Mercury
I know what you're saying RK (all that billet* stuff for the sake of it) but it's too easy to make one of these "just another" 50's or 60's sled.
*I often wonder if half the people using it even knew what "billet" meant. Or cared.
Heck, i've even seen cast "billet" goodies.

Re: Late 80's Mercury
I'm practising with decals & setting solution in preparation for girding my loins and tackling the red stripe decals on a Batmobile.
