Holden Monaro
My first build for 2013. It's a 68 HK Monaro by Cavalier. This build is quite basic, being curbside (no engine) and rudimentary chassis (flat plate). The body is resin, as is the grille and taillight insert. The bumpers are metal and the windows are a vac form tub. The body I already painted a horrible green some time ago, so i painted over it with Tamiya Metallic Blue. I made a roof cover for the inside of the cabin, using serviette and white glue. The decal stripes fell apart as soon as i wet them, only the badges were usable. i've ordered a new decal set from Partsbox.com to put a stripe on. The wheels aren't lined up very well, so i might have to cut off the axle locators and reglue them in better placement. the car sits very low and the front wheels are too far forward. There are also a few air bubbles, as you'd expect on a resin kit.

Re: Holden Monaro
Looks great man. That Tamiya blue is pretty close to the factory colour. Those cavalier kits were a bit of a lottery, you didn't know if you were going to get a useable kit or not. I've had a couple of dodgy ones and they can be real skill testers.

Re: Holden Monaro
Very nice Monaro.
I've been looking at 'The Parts Box' kits for a while now wondering if I should get one. It's a shame that there's not many Aussie muscle car kits out there.
Yours is fantastic.

Re: Holden Monaro
If you want my advice, Josh. get one asap. who knows how much longer Jason will keep TPB going. These Cavalier ones pop up on ebay occasionally.LordZycon wrote:I've been looking at 'The Parts Box' kits for a while now wondering if I should get one.

Mate, Jason at The Parts Box is an absolute legend (albeit a bit of an insane / odd one at times). His work is amazing. For anyone in SA or passing through, get your backsides up to Lobethal and check out their store. It's a massive store that has a crap load of kits for sale (and a few hundred extremely rare kits that he has "on a shelf" jsut to tease and torment us).
The back of the store is his workshop and just infront of that, running half the width of the store is a massive glass display unit / counter that has all of his resin in it. Along the back of that is a wall made of peg board that has all the small items in massive quantitys.
Now, the fun part, as some of you may have noticed, he is now doing a lot of Slot car stuff... If you're into this, then you're going to love what takes up almost a third of this store, a massive 6-8 lane slot car track with bridges, cambered corners the works.
It's definately worth spending a few hours in this place.

Re: Holden Monaro
i redid the decals with Jason's new set. they are a bit sharper than the ones that came with the kit and the badges are silver instead of grey, so they look better too. It also had 'Monaro' script too, bonus.
Re: Holden Monaro
Looks OK to me but I have the same issues with their FJ Holden, and worse still the wheelharches in the FJ are just so wrong.
So I'm gunna give you a pat on the back for making an average model kit look very good finished.
